After months of teaser trailers, photocalls, and mounting fan speculation, Christopher Nolan’s most ambitious project yet has officially had its moment in the spotlight. London’s Leicester Square transformed into a scene fit for the ancient Aegean this week, as one of the starriest casts assembled in recent memory descended on the city for a night that fans had been counting down to for what felt like forever.

The scale of the event matched the scale of the film itself. A massive wooden Trojan horse loomed over the entrance to the Odeon Luxe theater, setting a suitably mythic tone for the evening, while screaming crowds packed the surrounding streets, hoping to catch even a glimpse of the ensemble making their way down the sand colored carpet.

Charlize Theron was among the standout arrivals of the night, turning heads in a black velvet Givenchy gown from the label’s Fall 2026 collection. The dramatic look featured a high halter neckline, a daring thigh-high slit, and dramatic oversized white gloves that quickly became one of the most talked about style moments of the entire premiere. Theron plays the nymph Calypso in the film, and her striking black and white ensemble fit right in with a night full of similarly bold fashion statements from her castmates.

At the afterparty held at Oswald’s club in London’s Mayfair district, Theron stunned in a striking red velvet gown featuring a halter neckline, a high thigh slit, and elegant black silk gloves that added a dramatic touch to the glamorous look.

She was joined on the carpet by a genuinely staggering lineup that included Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, and Lupita Nyong’o. Rounding out the guest list were Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, and Samantha Morton, along with musician Travis Scott, making for one of the most star-packed premieres of the year so far.

The Odyssey‘ brings Homer’s ancient Greek epic to the screen, following Damon’s Odysseus as he battles his way home to Ithaca after the long and brutal Trojan War, only to find his wife Penelope, played by Hathaway, still fending off suitors in his absence. Holland plays their son Telemachus, while Pattinson takes on the role of Antinous, one of the more aggressive men vying for Penelope’s hand. Zendaya rounds out the central mythology as the goddess Athena.

Taking to the stage ahead of the screening, Nolan reflected on what it meant to bring the film home to London, telling the crowd it was the first audience in the world to see the movie and adding that he grew up dreaming of filling that very screen one day, according to a report from Deadline. The director’s remarks captured the emotional weight of the moment for a filmmaker who has spent years building toward this release.

Damon, who has been vocal throughout the press tour about the sheer physical demands of the shoot, doubled down on just how grueling the production truly was. When asked how the film’s physicality compared to other action-heavy productions he has worked on, Damon simply said, “This is an 11,” in comments shared by Deadline. The three month shoot spanned six countries and relied heavily on Nolan’s signature use of practical effects and IMAX cameras rather than green screens.

Expectations for the film’s box office performance are already sky high. Industry analysts are projecting an opening weekend in the range of eighty to one hundred million dollars when the film hits North American theaters, numbers that would put it in a similar tier to Nolan’s last outing, the Oscar-winning ‘Oppenheimer.’ That film went on to gross more than nine hundred million dollars worldwide, and given the star power and scale on display in ‘The Odyssey,’ many are betting this one could climb even higher.

With the London stop marking just the beginning of what promises to be an extensive global rollout, all eyes will now turn to how audiences respond once the film finally reaches theaters everywhere on July 17. Between the mythological scale of the story and the sheer star wattage of its cast, ‘The Odyssey’ has already proven it knows how to make an entrance.
