A New ‘Street Fighter’ Trailer Just Dropped, and Ryu vs. Ken Might Finally Be Coming to Life

Video game adaptations have historically been a rocky proposition for Hollywood, but Paramount’s upcoming take on Capcom’s beloved fighting franchise has spent the past several months steadily building momentum with each new piece of footage. What started as a modest teaser at The Game Awards has since evolved into a full-blown promotional campaign leaning hard into the source material’s larger-than-life energy.

That momentum continued this week with the release of a fresh trailer, giving fans another substantial look at how director Kitao Sakurai’s vision for the franchise is coming together ahead of its theatrical debut. With the film’s October release date now less than two months away, this latest footage arrives at a pivotal moment in the marketing rollout.

The new trailer teases what could be one of the film’s most anticipated moments, hinting at a potential showdown between Ryu and Ken Masters, the franchise’s two central rivals. Set in 1993, the story follows the estranged fighters as they’re pulled back into competition by the mysterious Chun-Li, who recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament, only for a deadly conspiracy to force them to confront both each other and their own pasts.

Andrew Koji stars as Ryu opposite Noah Centineo’s Ken Masters, with Callina Liang rounding out the central trio as Chun-Li. The film’s premise sets up their rivalry as more than just tournament competition, positioning it as a deeply personal reckoning that threatens to unravel their old friendship entirely.

The film’s supporting ensemble reads like a genuine crossover event spanning multiple entertainment industries. WWE stars Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i and Cody Rhodes headline the cast as Akuma and Guile respectively, while Jason Momoa takes on the role of Blanka, also serving as one of the film’s producers.

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson plays the powerful boxer Balrog, while David Dastmalchian steps into the role of the franchise’s central antagonist, M. Bison. Rounding out the cast are Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Olivier Richters as Zangief, and Japanese professional wrestler Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, with former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski also appearing as Joe.

Comedy elements factor heavily into the ensemble as well, with Eric André playing bombastic announcer Don Sauvage and Andrew Schulz taking on the role of Dan Hibiki. Orville Peck plays Vega, Mel Jarnson portrays Cammy, and Rayna Vallandingham rounds out the roster as Juli, giving the film one of the more eclectic casts assembled for a video game adaptation in recent memory.

This marks the third live-action attempt at bringing ‘Street Fighter’ to the big screen, following the cult-favorite 1994 film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia, and 2009’s poorly received ‘Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.’ Principal photography for the new film took place in Australia under the working title “Punch,” running from August 2025 through November of that year.

Legendary Entertainment produced the film in coproduction with Capcom, with Paramount handling distribution. Given the franchise’s rocky cinematic history, expectations remain high that this version, leaning fully into the games’ inherent camp and spectacle rather than shying away from it, might finally deliver the adaptation longtime fans have been waiting for.
