A Documentary About the Life and Legacy of Beloved Minecraft Creator Technoblade Is Officially in the Works
Gaming culture has produced its fair share of larger-than-life personalities over the years, but few have left as lasting or emotionally resonant a mark as one particular Minecraft creator whose story continues to inspire fans years after his passing. His influence has only grown since his death, spreading well beyond the platforms where he first built his following.
That creator was Technoblade, a Minecraft content creator known for his sharp humor, competitive skill, and an unshakable connection with his millions of fans. His story took a devastating turn in 2021 when he revealed a cancer diagnosis to his audience, continuing to communicate with fans throughout treatment with the same resilience and humor that had defined his career from the start.
Now, that story is being brought to the big screen. A new documentary titled “Technoblade Never Dies” is officially in production, with financing coming from Riot Games and Hypixel Studios, both of which have committed to donating their profits from the film to charity, according to Variety.
The documentary takes its title directly from one of Technoblade’s own catchphrases, and it’s being made with the full support and cooperation of his family. Production is being handled by Candle Media’s Candle True Stories, a studio with prior credits including Netflix’s “Untold: The Liver King” and two Paramount+ series, “Wild Boys: Strangers In Town” and “The Carters.”
According to Candle True Stories, the goal of the project is to create “an independent feature documentary to bring Technoblade’s story and community to audiences around the world.” While the film has only just entered production and doesn’t yet have a confirmed release date, producers have outlined a plan that includes premiering at a major film festival before moving toward a theatrical release and broader distribution, with a distribution deal still to be secured.
Hypixel Studios, one of the film’s financiers, was founded by the team behind Hypixel, widely recognized as the largest Minecraft server in the world, giving the project a direct connection to the community that shaped much of Technoblade’s career.
Technoblade began creating Minecraft content as a teenager, chasing the goal of reaching 10 million YouTube subscribers, a milestone he achieved in late 2021, just months before his death. Following his passing in June 2022 at the age of 23, his father shared his final message with fans, a video titled “so long nerds,” which revealed his son’s first name, Alex, publicly for the first time while the family chose to keep the rest of their identity private.
That video became one of the most-watched pieces of content on YouTube that year, and the phrase “Technoblade never dies” has since evolved into a lasting tribute repeated across the gaming community. His influence has continued showing up in unexpected places since then, including a tribute to his iconic crowned-pig avatar that appeared in 2025’s “A Minecraft Movie.”
Technoblade’s YouTube channel remains active today with nearly 23 million subscribers, a testament to just how deeply his content continues to resonate with fans years after his death. His story of humor and resilience in the face of illness has clearly left an impact substantial enough to warrant this kind of full-scale documentary treatment.
With production now officially underway and major gaming companies backing the project financially, “Technoblade Never Dies” looks set to become a meaningful tribute to a creator whose community has never stopped honoring his memory.
