‘Madame Web’ Star Dakota Johnson Turns Heads at Valentino Beauty’s ‘Vendetta’ Fragrance Launch
Dakota Johnson has built a reputation over the past decade as one of Hollywood’s most reliably stylish presences, someone who treats a red carpet appearance as its own kind of performance. Between her work in front of the camera and her growing footprint in fashion campaigns, she’s become a natural fit for luxury brands looking to pair star power with genuine sartorial credibility.
That reputation was on full display this week as Valentino continued rolling out one of its biggest beauty pushes in years. The Italian fashion house has spent the past several months building anticipation around a new fragrance franchise, leaning heavily on star power to reintroduce a name from its own archives to a new generation of consumers.
Johnson stepped out for the launch party of Valentino Beauty’s new “Vendetta” fragrance in Los Angeles, arriving in a custom Fall 2026 gown from Maison Valentino. The slinky black satin dress featured a deep plunging neckline trimmed in delicate scalloped lace, paired with a dramatic black velvet opera coat draped over her shoulders.
Johnson completed the look with a Maison Valentino DeVain bag in black alligator leather, along with Lisa Eisner black jade Greybull earrings and a diamond ring from Jessica McCormack. The gothic-romantic styling fit neatly alongside the moody, intimate tone the brand has leaned into throughout the entire Vendetta rollout.
Johnson serves as one of two faces of the Vendetta campaign, joined by actor Alexander Skarsgård in what marks the pair’s first professional collaboration despite knowing each other for years. Valentino Beauty is reviving the Vendetta name after more than three decades, having originally introduced it under founder Valentino Garavani back in 1991.
The launch represents the brand’s first new prestige fragrance franchise in six years, arriving as two distinct but connected scents. Vendetta Donna, created by master perfumer Dominique Ropion alongside perfumer Andrew Everett, centers on a carnal expression of tuberose paired with a red orange nectar accord and sandalwood, while Vendetta Uomo, composed by Marie Salamagne, combines Peruvian ginger, Italian citrus, and a cinnamon liquor accord.
The campaign itself was directed by filmmaker Romain Gavras and photographed by the duo Inez & Vinoodh, casting Johnson and Skarsgård as a pair of runaway lovers living out an “us-against-the-world” romance. Skarsgård spoke warmly about finally getting the chance to work alongside Johnson, saying there’s something compelling about how the brand celebrates individuality, emotion, and connection, a sentiment he shared in comments reported by Vogue Scandinavia.
Valentino has positioned Vendetta as a response to what it describes as increasingly performative, algorithm-driven versions of modern romance. Both fragrances arrive in sculptural bottles marked by the brand’s signature V motif, with pleated caps inspired by the folds of Valentino couture, tying the product design directly back to the house’s fashion roots.
The launch also arrives at a moment when the broader prestige fragrance category has been posting strong growth, giving luxury houses fresh incentive to build recognizable franchises rather than one-off releases. Valentino’s decision to pair two established movie stars with two celebrated master perfumers reflects that broader industry shift toward blending celebrity appeal with genuine formulation credibility.
For Johnson specifically, the Vendetta campaign adds another high-profile beauty partnership to a résumé that already spans major film roles and red carpet moments. Her presence at Friday’s launch event underscored just how central she’s become to the fragrance’s marketing rollout, extending far beyond the original campaign film into real-world appearances built to keep the buzz going.
With the fragrance already available in the United States following its August 28 debut, the launch party marked something of a victory lap for Valentino Beauty after months of teaser content and campaign imagery. Johnson’s appearance gave fans and industry watchers alike one more chance to see the collaboration play out in person, dress and all.
Whether Vendetta becomes as culturally memorable as its 1991 predecessor remains to be seen, but Johnson’s red carpet moment certainly gave the relaunch a glamorous send-off. Between the styling, the star power, and the scent’s ambitious backstory, Valentino appears confident it has a genuine hit on its hands.
