Pamela and Young Jason Return in the Bone-Chilling Full Trailer for ‘Crystal Lake’

Camp counselors everywhere have reason to be nervous again. Nearly 50 years after Pamela Voorhees first terrorized Camp Crystal Lake, the origin story behind one of horror’s most infamous villains is finally getting its full spotlight treatment.

That story arrives in the form of ‘Crystal Lake,’ the long-awaited ‘Friday the 13th’ prequel series from Peacock and A24. Fans have been tracking the project’s development for years through cast announcements, showrunner shakeups, and a title change, and the wait is almost over.

Now, the full trailer has dropped, offering the most complete look yet at Linda Cardellini’s transformation into Pamela Voorhees, the grieving mother whose rage set the entire franchise in motion. The footage opens in the summer of 1971 with a young Jason Voorhees drowning in the lake, before jumping forward to find Pam still consumed by grief nearly a year later, when two strangers arrive in town and begin digging into her past.

Cardellini takes over the role originally made iconic by Betsy Palmer in 1980’s ‘Friday the 13th,’ and the series is positioned to explain how Pam’s unresolved trauma eventually pushed her toward the killing spree horror fans already know. Callum Vinson plays young Jason, whose apparent death sets the entire mystery in motion, with the trailer teasing hints about how he’s able to resurface later in the story.

The rest of the ensemble includes William Catlett as Levon Brooks, Devin Kessler as Briana Brooks, Cameron Scoggins as Dorf, and Gwendolyn Sundstrom as Grace Snell, with Nick Cordileone, Joy Suprano, Danielle Kotch, and Phoenix Parnevik rounding out the recurring cast. The series comes from creator, writer, and showrunner Brad Caleb Kane, best known for his work on ‘It: Welcome to Derry,’ with directing duties split between Michael Lennox, Celine Held, Logan George, and Quyen Tran.

Kane has been vocal about wanting to honor the franchise’s roots while still giving Cardellini room to make the role her own. Speaking about her performance, the showrunner described her work in the series as inconceivably brilliant, adding that she’s going to shock and surprise a lot of people once audiences see the finished product.

That kind of buzz fits the scale of the project. ‘Crystal Lake’ has been in development for years, surviving a showrunner change, industry-wide strikes, and a shift in production location before finally landing its release window. The series is produced by A24, marking another notable step for the studio’s growing footprint in prestige horror television.

All eight episodes of ‘Crystal Lake’ will premiere together on Peacock on October 15, giving fans the option to binge the entire origin story in one sitting rather than waiting week to week. That release strategy lines up neatly with the Halloween season, positioning the show as one of the fall’s most anticipated genre offerings.

For a franchise that’s spent decades focused almost entirely on Jason’s exploits as an adult killer, ‘Crystal Lake’ represents a genuine tonal shift, one built more around psychological dread and grief than pure slasher spectacle. Whether that approach pays off with longtime fans of the franchise remains to be seen, but the trailer alone suggests Kane and his team aren’t shying away from the franchise’s darker roots.

With the full trailer now out in the wild, anticipation for ‘Crystal Lake’ is only going to keep building as its October premiere approaches.
