Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone Spotted Filming ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ in Hoboken
Few thrillers have taken over the box office quite like ‘The Housemaid’, and now the follow-up is officially in motion. Cameras are rolling on the sequel, and the production has been turning up in some unexpected corners of the New York area this fall.
The original film, based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, was one of the biggest surprise hits of 2025. It pulled in over $401 million worldwide on a $35 million budget, which is why Lionsgate wasted no time greenlighting a second chapter. The studio announced the sequel on January 6, with production planned for 2026.
On Wednesday morning, October 14, fans got a close-up look at that production. Sydney Sweeney and Michele Morrone were spotted filming ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ in Hoboken, New Jersey, with cameras set up around 9 a.m. along Garden Street between 9th and 10th Streets. Sweeney is returning as Millie Calloway, while Morrone is back as Enzo.

Hoboken is not the first stop. Sweeney was reportedly seen shooting on October 6 at William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, according to the school’s student newspaper, with production activity centered on Grant Hall. Filming is set across New York City and New Jersey this fall.
The location choices make sense for the story. The sequel sends Millie to Manhattan, where she takes a job with a wealthy family whose immaculate surface hides long-buried secrets. Fans have been watching the set closely to see how the production brings that world to life.

The film adapts the second novel in McFadden’s bestselling series, published in 2023. In it, Millie takes a well-paid cleaning job in a Manhattan penthouse with one strange rule: she is never to interact with the wife, who is supposedly ill and kept behind a locked bedroom door. Naturally, Millie starts digging.
That changes the cast significantly. Nina and Andrew Winchester, played by Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar in the first film, are not in the sequel novel, and there has been no announcement about either returning. Seyfried has said she could see herself making a brief appearance.
Kirsten Dunst joins as Wendy Garrick, with Paul Anthony Kelly as Douglas Garrick, the wealthy couple Millie works for this time. Brittany Snow plays Marybeth and Stephen Kalyn plays Brock. Morrone’s return as Enzo ties the film back to the first story, though details about his role remain under wraps.
Behind the camera, Paul Feig is back to direct and produce, and Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted the first book, wrote the sequel script. Sweeney is also a producer on the project. The series spans 3 novels and a novella, so there is plenty of material left if the studio wants to continue the franchise.
Lionsgate has set a theatrical release date of December 17, 2027. That is a crowded date, since it falls on the same day as ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and the studio will be counting on the first film’s strong word of mouth to carry it. The company has not released a trailer, plot synopsis or first official look from the production.
For now, fans will have to settle for set sightings and the occasional video clip. With filming underway, more glimpses are likely as the crew moves through the area.
