A New ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Poster Pairs Doctor Doom With the Sentinels and Points to an Earlier Opening Abroad

Marvel Studios has built the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ campaign around a single idea: Doctor Doom is the center of everything. Nearly every poster, trailer and promo piece has leaned on the villain’s imposing silhouette. That approach has made each new piece of artwork a small event of its own.

The poster rollout has been steady and global. The first Doctor Doom poster arrived with the film’s trailer, and a later one from the Comic-Con presentation gave Robert Downey Jr.’s character a full-body portrait in a green cloak and metal armor. Marvel has also released regional artwork for Korea and China, adding to the sense that the film is a worldwide event.

The latest piece of artwork is a new international poster for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ that has surfaced online. It features Downey’s Doctor Doom alongside the Sentinels, bathed in the same green glow that has defined the campaign. The poster was displayed at Lucca Comics & Games in Italy, which runs from October 28 to November 1 and marks its 60th anniversary this year.

The image circulating online is low quality, since it appears to have been captured from the event floor. Even so, the composition is clear, with Doom looming over the action while heroes and robotic figures fill the lower half. The Avengers logo sits at the top left, matching the franchise’s usual branding.

One detail stands out on the poster. Its Italian text says the film arrives in cinemas from December 16, 2 days before the US release on December 18. That fits a pattern already seen in other markets, where Disney has confirmed China will get the film on December 16. A Korean poster also lists the same early date.

Marvel hasn’t broken the film’s global release into a single schedule, but the posters suggest many territories will see it ahead of North America. Early international openings are a way to build momentum and keep spoilers from spreading. For fans abroad, it means the wait is shorter than it looks.

The Italian poster is far from the first to center the villain. A run of 25 posters surfaced earlier this month, many showing heroes facing off against Doom. Another recent one, a ‘Team Doom’ poster, showed the villain on his throne with three Latverian witches. It was historic because it was the first MCU theatrical poster to spotlight characters who have not been officially cast.

The marketing push has extended well beyond posters. A promo aired during the World Series, and tickets for premium Infinity Vision screenings went on sale on July 20 before opening to cinemas nationwide. Collectibles are arriving too, including a Hot Toys Sentinel figure with light-up eyes and a miniature Doctor Doom.

The Russo brothers are directing ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which brings together heroes from the Avengers, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to face a multiverse conflict. Downey leads the cast as Doctor Doom, joined by Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and many others. ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ follows on December 17, 2027.

Demand appears to be strong. The film has reportedly crossed $125 million in presales, and it opens the same day as ‘Dune: Part Three’, a pairing nicknamed Dunesday. The final trailer is now expected in mid-November, which would give Marvel one more big moment before release.

For now, the new poster is another sign that the campaign is still building. With Doctor Doom front and center and the Sentinels joining the fray, the artwork teases a conflict on a huge scale. The next few weeks should bring more reveals as December approaches.
