Superman’s Social Media Just Changed Forever, and ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Is Why

For months, the DC Universe has been quietly building toward its next big theatrical outing. James Gunn’s follow-up to ‘Superman‘ has been in production, in post and in the headlines, and the marketing push is finally starting to take shape.

The film has had a long road to this point. Gunn first announced the project in September 2025 with artwork from DC head Jim Lee showing Superman standing next to Lex Luthor in his mech suit. Stars David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult shared their own drawings of the two characters shortly afterward.

That build-up has now reached the social media pages that belong to the Man of Steel himself. The official Superman accounts across X, Instagram, Facebook, Threads and TikTok now carry the same message in their bios: ‘Man of Tomorrow’ in theaters on July 9, 2027.

It is a small change, but it signals the start of a new marketing phase. The pages that once promoted ‘Superman’ now point squarely at the sequel, which gives fans a constant reminder that the countdown is on.

According to Gunn, the film is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together, to a certain degree, against a much bigger threat. He has described it as much a Lex movie as a Superman movie, and it is set roughly 2 years after the events of the first film.

That threat is Brainiac, the alien android played by German actor Lars Eidinger. The character is making his live-action debut, and Gunn has contrasted him with Superman as what happens when intelligence loses all connection to humanity.

Corenswet is back as Superman, and Hoult returns as Lex, who ended the first film being taken away in custody. Rachel Brosnahan is back as Lois Lane, with Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.

Several members of the Justice Gang are also returning, including Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. Milly Alcock, who had a cameo as Kara Zor-El, also returns after headlining ‘Supergirl’, and Adria Arjona has been reported as Maxima.

Gunn first indicated that cameras were rolling on April 20, when he posted a photo on Instagram of a ‘Luther, A’ badge, a chessboard and a bag of chips. The production wrapped in late August 2026, with Gunn thanking his cast and crew and calling the shoot a joyful experience.

He also revealed that the film took 93 days to shoot, one day more than ‘Superman’. A photo of Hoult swimming in a lake after the final scene has fans speculating that Lex ends up in Salvation, the forested prison dimension seen in ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2.

The sequel arrives at a delicate moment for the studio. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has rejected the idea that the performance of ‘Supergirl’ would change DC’s strategy, pointing out that Gunn is focused on ‘Man of Tomorrow’.

Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Warner Bros. is also still pending, and reports that some television projects have been scrapped have fueled questions about the future. Gunn has responded to a fan on Threads by saying nothing is on hold, which adds to the sense that this film is carrying a lot of expectations.

With roughly 8 months until release, the studio has plenty of time to roll out more promotional material. The teaser campaign has already begun to heat up, and the change on the official accounts is the clearest sign yet that Warner Bros. is gearing up to sell the sequel.

The movie is also described as DC Studios’ first event film, so every promotional step is likely to draw close attention from fans. Whether the film can match the energy of its predecessor remains to be seen. But the combination of Superman, Lex and a world-ending threat from Brainiac gives the marketing team plenty to work with.
