Some red carpet moments fade by the next news cycle, and then there are the ones that become a reference point for everything that follows. Zendaya’s winged gown from the New York premiere of ‘The Odyssey‘ was clearly built for the second category. Almost 4 months later, people are still talking about it.

Zendaya plays the goddess Athena in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, and she and longtime stylist Law Roach treated the press tour like a mythology-themed fashion campaign built on white, cream, and ivory looks. In London, a Schiaparelli couture gown flew on a private jet from Paris just hours before she wore it. In Paris, she wore a Louis Vuitton lace gown that took more than 800 hours of work to create.

Then came the finale. The Hollywood Reporter has now published its inaugural stylists’ survey, in which more than 50 of Hollywood’s biggest stylists each picked their 10 favorite looks, and Zendaya’s winged ‘The Odyssey’ premiere gown landed at No. 1. The final list ranks 26 looks in total.

The look was a white strapless couture gown by Matières Fécales, the Paris label founded by Hannah Rose Dalton and Steven Raj Bhaskaran. It featured a plunging neckline, a high slit, intricate ruching and dramatic feathered wings attached at the back. The wings drew comparisons to the ancient Greek sculpture Nike of Samothrace, while the train was intentionally distressed.

The dress first appeared on the label’s fall and winter runway in Paris in March 2025, which means Zendaya wore it more than a year later at the final premiere of the press tour on July 14. For an actress playing the Greek goddess of wisdom and war, the winged silhouette felt like the most on-theme move of the entire run.

Roach reportedly asked the designers to reserve the gown right after seeing the show, long before the film was even finished. He told W Magazine on the premiere red carpet, “I asked them to hold the look for us.” He added that he didn’t think the movie had even been made at that point, and that the designers kept the dress aside the entire time.

The designers later said on Instagram that they had turned down plenty of other requests because this was the right fit for the piece. Fans responded in kind, flooding social media with praise and calling it her best look yet.

Everything around the gown stayed deliberately pared back. Zendaya traded her usual pumps for heelless shoes that Matières Fécales made in collaboration with Christian Louboutin, and she added Chopard jewelry. Her hair was styled into a long braid by Coree Moreno, and she skipped mascara altogether.

Emma Chamberlain and Chase Infiniti, both Met Gala standouts, reportedly took the No. 2 and No. 3 spots behind Zendaya. That puts a gown from a young Paris label ahead of some of the biggest fashion moments of the year. Charlize Theron’s Dior suit from the ‘Apex’ premiere also cracked the top 10.

Matières Fécales was arguably the survey’s biggest winner, as the design duo behind the label captured stylists’ hearts more than anyone, with Chanel, Dior and Saint Laurent also named among Hollywood’s favorite houses. The survey also noted that sheer looks continue to show off, while cutouts and two-piece looks are taking over.

The label’s momentum was already building. Lady Gaga wore a black feathered Matières Fécales mermaid gown to the Grammys, Demi Moore wore a hot pink ballgown at Cannes, and Sarah Paulson wore a shredded gray tulle gown to the Met Gala. Zendaya herself wore the brand in March for ‘The Drama’, in a salmon-hued frayed chiffon gown.

The survey’s premise is that stylists have become the true arbiters of taste, ahead of fashion editors, models, moguls and content creators. That makes the win feel especially fitting for Zendaya and Roach, whose method dressing has become a hallmark of the modern press tour.

Do you agree with Hollywood's top stylists naming Zendaya's winged The Odyssey premiere gown the best red carpet look of 2026?
