Few animated franchises have tested their fans’ patience quite like the Spider-Verse. ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ was originally set for March 29, 2024, but it was taken off the release calendar in July 2023, which left viewers hanging on the cliffhanger from the previous film for years.

The film’s date has kept shifting since. Sony announced a June 4, 2027 release during its CinemaCon panel on March 31, 2025, and the film later moved to June 25, 2027. The studio has since moved it up to June 18, 2027, where it will open directly against Disney’s animated film ‘Gatto’.

Through all of that, one of the people closest to the music has now given fans a small but emotional glimpse of what is coming. According to a post from Marvel Updates, citing Deadline, composer Daniel Pemberton says he cried while watching the film. “The last part I saw made me cry, multiple times,” he said, adding that he believes everybody is in for a real treat.

That reaction carries extra weight given how involved Pemberton has been. He scored ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ and is currently working on ‘Beyond’, so he has been shaping the trilogy’s sound from the start.

He has also been open about the pressure that comes with closing out a beloved series. Speaking to GamesRadar+, Pemberton said the team wants a “classic trilogy” and that they feel added pressure to deliver one. The line he used to describe that fear was that they don’t want to “Godfather it.”

Pemberton has also been a calm voice amid the rumors. In September 2024, he pushed back on a report that large parts of the film had been scrapped, joking that not everything online is accurate. Coverage at the time noted that the film’s release was not expected until 2026 at the earliest, so his reassurance mattered to anxious fans.

Taken together, a composer saying the ending made him cry more than once is the kind of detail that gets a fanbase talking. Details on the plot remain limited, but the basics are known. The film begins immediately after ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ and follows Miles Morales, who is trapped and on the run in an alternate universe while trying to save his family. It is also set to conclude Miles’ story in this universe.

That finality may explain why the emotions run so high. Phil Lord and Chris Miller have said the film will conclude their trilogy and Miles’ story arc, which means this is the last chapter of the saga in its current form. The wait has been long and the delays frustrating, but Pemberton’s reaction suggests the team has delivered something worth it.

Pemberton has also said he is at peace with the trilogy ending. He admitted he is ready to say goodbye to these films, though he would be open to scoring spin-off shows. If the final stretch really does bring even the composer to tears, audiences should probably bring tissues when the film arrives in June 2027.
