Sony’s ‘Spider-Verse’ Films Get Their Turn in the Studio’s Sweeping New Poster Retrospective

Sony Pictures has spent this week working its way through the entire Spider-Man cinematic catalog, giving each era of the character a fresh visual makeover. After reimagining Sam Raimi’s original trilogy, Andrew Garfield’s two-film run, and Tom Holland’s MCU chapter, the studio has now turned its attention to the animated corner of its Spider-Man universe.

The Spider-Verse films occupy a unique place in Sony’s lineup, having earned the studio some of its strongest critical reception across the entire franchise. Both ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ and its follow-up expanded the mythology of Spider-Man far beyond any single actor or timeline, introducing audiences to an entire multiverse of Spider-People in the process.

Sony Pictures has unveiled new poster artwork for ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, part of the studio’s larger ten-poster series covering every live-action and animated Spider-Man film it has produced.

The new ‘Into the Spider-Verse’ poster is highlighted in purple and features Miles Morales alongside Gwen Stacy, Peter B. Parker, and the Prowler, the characters most central to the film’s origin story for Miles as Brooklyn’s newest web-slinger.

The accompanying ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ artwork carries forward that same visual language while widening its scope considerably. The 2023 sequel picks up after Miles reunites with Gwen Stacy, sending Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man hurtling across the Multiverse, where he crosses paths with the Spider Society, a sprawling team of Spider-People tasked with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. That expanded roster includes characters like Miguel O’Hara, also known as Spider-Man 2099, along with Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman, giving the sequel a noticeably larger canvas than its predecessor.

Both films retain their distinct animated visual identity within this new poster series, standing apart stylistically from the redesigned live-action artwork covering Raimi, Garfield, and Holland’s respective eras. That contrast underscores just how differently the Spider-Verse films have approached the character compared to their live-action counterparts, leaning into bold, comic-inspired visuals rather than photorealistic action.

This release completes a broader retrospective that has unfolded across the week, ultimately spanning all ten major Spider-Man films Sony has released to date. Altogether, the collection gives fans a rare opportunity to see every version of the character, from Tobey Maguire’s earliest days in 2002 through Tom Holland’s ongoing MCU run, presented side by side within a single unified visual project.

The timing of this rollout lines up closely with ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continuing its record-breaking performance in theaters, giving Sony a natural moment to spotlight the franchise’s full history while public attention remains high. It also follows news that Raimi’s original trilogy is separately set to return to theaters this fall through a limited Fathom Entertainment release, suggesting Sony has plenty planned to keep the character’s legacy in the spotlight well beyond this poster campaign.

With animation continuing to represent some of the franchise’s most acclaimed output, seeing the Spider-Verse films included alongside their live-action counterparts feels like a fitting acknowledgment of just how much those movies reshaped what a Spider-Man story can look like.
