Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform, has been making bold moves to shape its lineup for the future. In 2025, several shows got the axe, leaving us to reflect on what could have been.

From dark comedies to horror-thrillers, the cancelled series offered unique stories that connected with many viewers. Let’s dive into the five shows Peacock dropped this year and explore what made them special.

Based on a True Story (2023-2024)

UCP

This dark comedy-thriller followed Ava and Nathan Bartlett, a couple caught up in America’s true-crime obsession. Starring Kaley Cuoco and Chris Messina, the show blended humor with suspense as they teamed up with a serial killer to create a podcast.

Despite a solid 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a loyal following, the series ended after two seasons. Its sharp wit and twisty plot couldn’t secure a third. We’ll miss Ava’s chaotic energy and the show’s clever take on our true-crime craze.

Bel-Air (2022-2025)

Universal Television

A dramatic reimagining of the classic sitcom ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,’ this series followed Will, a teen from Philadelphia navigating life in wealthy Bel-Air. Jabari Banks led a talented cast, including Olly Sholotan and Coco Jones, in a modern, grounded story.

After four seasons, Peacock pulled the plug, despite the show’s fresh perspective and strong performances. The blend of drama, culture, and family dynamics resonated with many, making its cancellation a tough loss. We’re left wishing for more of Will’s journey.

Bupkis (2023)

Universal Television

This comedy series gave us a semi-autobiographical look at Pete Davidson’s life, mixing humor with heartfelt moments. Starring Davidson, Edie Falco, and Joe Pesci, it explored fame, family, and personal struggles with a raw edge.

Despite an initial renewal, Peacock cancelled ‘Bupkis’ after one season. The show’s bold humor and star-studded cast, including guest appearances by names like Jon Stewart, weren’t enough to keep it going. It’s a shame we won’t see more of Pete’s chaotic world.

Hysteria! (2024)

Good Fear

Set during the 1980s Satanic Panic, this horror-comedy followed a group of teens caught in a web of supernatural fear and small-town chaos. Julie Bowen and Bruce Campbell brought star power to the series, which earned a 91% approval on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cancelled after just one season, ‘Hysteria!’ didn’t get the chance to build on its promising start. The mix of spooky vibes and sharp humor made it a standout. We’re disappointed to lose this nostalgic gem so soon.

Laid (2024)

Universal Television

This dark comedy followed Ruby, a woman whose ex-lovers start dying in mysterious ways, forcing her to confront her past. Stephanie Hsu led the cast, bringing charm to a quirky premise about love, death, and second chances.

Peacock axed ‘Laid’ after one season, despite its fresh take on romantic comedies. The show’s bold humor and Hsu’s magnetic performance left us wanting more. It’s a bummer we won’t see Ruby’s wild journey continue.

Teacup (2024)

Atomic Monster

This horror-thriller, inspired by Robert R. McCammon’s novel ‘Stinger,’ centered on a rural Georgia community facing a mysterious threat. Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman starred in a tense, emotional tale of survival.

After a single eight-episode season, Peacock cancelled ‘Teacup.’ Its chilling atmosphere and strong cast couldn’t save it from low viewership. We’re left wondering what could have been for this gripping story.
