Harrison Ford Gives a Harsh Response on His Future as Marvel’s Red Hulk
Harrison Ford stepped into the Marvel world by taking over the role of Thaddeus Ross in Captain America: Brave New World, replacing the late William Hurt.
While Ford isn’t exactly someone who was eager to play a comic book character, he went along with it and handled interviews like a pro, even when fans asked about his transformation into the Red Hulk.
The movie finished its run in theaters and is now available on Disney+, where it has been doing fairly well. Still, Ford keeps getting asked if he’ll appear in more Marvel films.
In a recent interview with Variety, when asked if Marvel boss Kevin Feige convinced him to come back, Ford simply said, “Nope.”
Ford’s co-star, Anthony Mackie, who plays the lead in the movie, spoke highly of working with Ford. Mackie said it was a dream to be on set with the star and called him a true professional. However, reports suggest that Ford wasn’t very excited about taking the role in the first place.
Mackie also revealed how nervous he was around Ford when filming began. He said he completely forgot his lines because of the pressure. Ford helped him relax with his famous on-set phrase, “Let’s shoot this piece of sh****.” Mackie explained, “The first day was so intimidating. I was so nervous I couldn’t remember my lines. He’s Harrison Ford. There’s this aura about him. But he breaks it down quickly because he’s such a cool guy. He’s everything a movie star should be.”
Ford apparently uses that phrase often while filming, and it doesn’t really mean the movie is bad, at least that’s what we thought.
When asked why he agreed to play such a different character like the Red Hulk, Ford gave a very honest answer: “It took not caring, it took being an idiot for money which I’ve done before… but it was fun!”
That blunt honesty is typical of Ford. When he says he’s “done [it] before,” he’s referring to his famous role as Han Solo, where he also had a complicated relationship with fame and his parts.
Fans have mixed feelings about Ford’s attitude. Some find it funny and refreshingly real, while others don’t get why he keeps accepting roles he doesn’t seem to enjoy.
Despite Captain America: Brave New World not performing well at the box office, Marvel’s Kevin Feige admitted that part of the problem was Chris Evans leaving the role of Captain America. Anthony Mackie is set to return in future Avengers movies, but it’s still unclear what will happen with Ford’s Red Hulk.
So for now, Harrison Ford’s Marvel future looks uncertain, and he doesn’t sound too eager to come back.
