Devon Walker Exits ‘SNL’ After 3 Seasons, Calls the Show “Toxic as Hell”
The cast changes at “Saturday Night Live” have officially started, and Devon Walker has announced he is leaving the show after three seasons.
On August 25, Walker shared an Instagram post about his departure, titled, “wait .. did he quit or did he get fired?” He reflected on his time at SNL, writing, “Me and the show did three years together, and sometimes it was really cool. Sometimes it was toxic as hell. But we did what we made the most of what it was, even amidst all of the dysfunction.”

Walker, 34, captioned the post, “me and baby broke up ❤️.” In an Instagram story, he called his exit “good news,” adding, “It was just time for me to do something different.” The comedian joined SNL in 2022 alongside Michael Longfellow, Marcello Hernandez, and Molly Kearney.

His announcement follows another recent SNL change. On August 24, Celeste Yim shared that they are leaving their writer role after five seasons.
In an Instagram post, Yim said the job “literally made all of my dreams come true,” even though it was “grueling and I slept in my office every week.”
Cast departures and new additions are common during SNL’s seasonal breaks. In 2024, Molly Kearney, Punkie Johnson, and Chloe Troast left between Seasons 49 and 50, while Jane Wickline, Ashley Padilla, and Emil Wakim joined.
Troast explained her exit, saying, “I wish I was going back to be with all the amazing friends I made there, it truly felt like home. But it wasn’t in the cards.”
SNL recently celebrated its 50th season with a primetime special featuring many past stars. Ahead of the Season 50 finale on May 17, fans speculated about which cast members might leave.
During a monologue song, host Scarlett Johansson joked that “Sarah (Sherman) is leaving,” confusing Sherman, who was standing nearby. Weekend Update also teased that Colin Jost might leave his anchor role to take over for creator Lorne Michaels.
In an interview with Puck, Michaels explained that keeping the cast together through Season 50 was necessary to avoid “disruptions,” but hinted that changes are coming for Season 51. He confirmed that James Austin Johnson will return to continue his role as President Donald Trump.
“Saturday Night Live” is set to return for its 51st season on Saturday, October 4.
