Aardman’s Stop-Motion Pokémon Series, ‘The Misadventures of Sirfeitch’d & Pichu,’ Just Gave Fans Their Best Look Yet at Galar

Stop-motion animation has a way of making even the most familiar worlds feel newly tangible, and few studios understand that magic better than Aardman. The team behind ‘Wallace & Gromit’ has spent years building a reputation for painstaking, textured craftsmanship, and their next project is bringing that same sensibility to one of gaming’s biggest franchises.

That collaboration first came into focus back in December 2024, when The Pokémon Company and Aardman announced they were teaming up on an original stop-motion series. Since then, updates have trickled out gradually, from a teaser short at the initial announcement to a full title reveal during Pokémon Presents, slowly building anticipation for what the finished product might actually look like in motion.

That wait paid off this week. At the Pokémon XP fan event in San Francisco, The Pokémon Company International and Aardman revealed a brand-new teaser trailer for ‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu,’ giving fans their most complete look yet at the stop-motion animation project set in the franchise’s Galar region.

The trailer made its debut during a “Behind the Scenes with Aardman” panel held alongside the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, an event that drew roughly 50,000 fans to San Francisco for a weekend of competitive play, parades and live performances. During the panel, Pokémon’s director of original animation, Phil Rynda, appeared alongside Aardman creatives Tom Parkinson, Nat McKay and James Young to walk through the making of the series.

Rynda spoke to just how much texture and atmosphere Aardman’s signature style brings to the world of Galar. “Audiences will be delighted getting to know the Sirfetch’d & Pichu, and wonderful cast of Pokémon, featured in this series,” Rynda said, per Complex. “Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes.”

The series follows Sirfetch’d, described as a noble but bumbling knight, and Pichu, his playful squire, as the two journey across Galar helping other Pokémon they encounter along the way. Notably, the show tells its story without any spoken human dialogue, relying instead on puppetry and Pokémon vocalizations limited to saying only their own names, a storytelling approach reminiscent of past entries like ‘Pokémon Concierge.’

The project marks a significant creative swing for both companies, pairing Aardman’s decades of clay and stop-motion expertise, honed on beloved properties like ‘Wallace & Gromit’ and ‘Shaun the Sheep,’ with one of the most recognizable video game franchises in the world. Aardman’s recent Christmas special, ‘Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl,’ became the most-watched animated show in the UK since records began, suggesting the studio remains as sharp as ever heading into this new venture.

‘Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu’ is set to premiere on Disney+ and Disney XD in 2027, though an exact release date has yet to be announced. With the first proper footage now out in the wild, fans have plenty to dissect while they wait for more details to emerge.
