One of the things that we saw in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ was the fact that Jessica Drew’s Spider-Woman played an important role as one of the top members of the Spidey Task Force that solved problems throughout the Spider-Verse. Of course, while she had a huge role to play in that movie, it was clear that she was pregnant despite the fact that she was still in action. So, who got Spider-Woman pregnant?

  • Article Breakdown:
  • ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ never addressed who the father of Jessica Drew’s baby was, suggesting that the movie follows the comics.
  • In the comics, it was revealed that Jessica Drew got pregnant via artificial insemination, and that means that the father was never named or revealed.
  • As such, it is possible that Spider-Woman in the Spider-Verse movies also got pregnant via artificial insemination.

‘Across the Spider-Verse’ never revealed the baby daddy

During the events of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ we learned that there was a huge Spider-Man Task Force composed of almost all of the Spider-People across a multiverse called the Spider-Verse. We saw this in the early portion of the movie when Gwen Stacy ended up going up against a Renaissance-period version of the Vulture, only for Miguel O’Hara and Jessica Drew to help her defeat the villain.

We know that Miguel is Spider-Man 2099 and is the leader of the Task Force. But we also know that Jessica Drew is Spider-Woman and is a big part of the Task Force as well as she plays a leadership role in the group. Still, the one thing that stands out about Jessica Drew is that she was pregnant during the events of the entire movie.

Jessica Drew stood out as Spider-Woman precisely because she was pregnant the entire time. Despite carrying a child in her belly, Spider-Woman kicked ass and was still in action. She didn’t shy away from going up against villains, proving to the world that even pregnant women can still fight. Even her voice actress thought that this was a good portrayal of pregnant women as Spider-Woman proved that women aren’t necessarily fragile during pregnancy.

Still, while Jessica Drew was pregnant in the movie, one of the things that people wondered about was the identity of the father. Of course, in the comics, Jessica has had a few love interests, including Hawkeye, among others. But the one thing that always stood out was her independence, as she was almost always portrayed as a strong and independent woman who didn’t need to have a man around.

As such, the ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ movie didn’t even address Jessica’s pregnancy. Outside of the fact that she was portrayed as a badass bike-riding pregnant Spider-Person, there was nothing mentioned about who got her pregnant. This means that we have no idea who got her pregnant in the Spider-Verse trilogy.

Of course, this could change in the future, as the final installment of this trilogy could give an answer as to who got Spider-Woman pregnant. But we are leaning toward the possibility that this will be something that will never be addressed. Or it is possible that the Spider-Verse movie creators simply thought that fans were familiar with Jessica Drew’s pregnancy in the comics.

Spider-Woman got pregnant in ‘Spider-Woman Vol. 6’

In the comics, Jessica Drew also got pregnant. Spider-Woman has been enjoying a good run in her solo comic book storyline. However, it was in ‘Spider-Woman Vol. 6’ that she was placed in an entirely new position that no fan expected. That’s because she was pregnant in this storyline, as it was clear as day that her belly was already swollen.

During this time, Jessica Drew worked as a private investigator. However, after she discovered that she was pregnant, she had to try to juggle the different responsibilities in her life. Jessica hired Ben Urich and the Porcupine in relation to her investigations while she was pregnant. However, it became apparent that she still needed to don her Spider-Woman costume during her pregnancy, proving that she was still very much capable of running things as a superhero while carrying a baby in her belly.

However, the comics also never addressed the identity of Jessica Drew’s baby daddy. Instead, it was revealed that she intentionally got pregnant through artificial insemination, suggesting that Jessica simply wanted to raise a baby on her own without being in a relationship with someone. This portrayal of Spider-Woman was well-received as Jessica was able to show women throughout the world that single parents are stronger than most people think. Jessica even became more motivated after the birth of her son because she now understands that she has to make the world a better place for her child.

It is possible that the storyline of the Spider-Verse movies simply carried over the same storyline in ‘Spider-Woman Vol. 6,’ wherein Jessica got pregnant through artificial insemination by choice. After all, most of the characters featured in ‘Across the Spider-Verse’ had storylines that were adapted from their comic book counterparts. This opens up the possibility that the Spider-Woman in the movie got pregnant through artificial insemination.

But as mentioned, this might be one of the things that the third installment of the Spider-Verse trilogy may want to address. Then again, if Jessica Drew in the comics chose to get pregnant without having a husband or a male partner, then there’s no reason why the Jessica Drew in the Spider-Verse movies didn’t make the same decision.
