‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’: Aubrey Plaza’s Role Possibly Revealed in a New Rumor
The question of having too much MCU content is ever-present since the canon expanded with the inclusion of Disney+ live-action series. And while we can see that Marvel Studios is making some small changes in the release strategy (there were eight months of hiatus after the ‘She-Hulk’ series before ‘Secret Invasion’ premiered in June, and the upcoming ‘Echo’ series will release all episodes at once to create more space for other upcoming projects), we can see that Marvel Studios is still developing a zillion spin-offs with many supporting characters.
Agatha Harkness debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the ‘WandaVision’ series in 2021. Played by Kathryn Hahn, the character was depicted as a noisy neighbor in Wanda’s reality-altered paradise called Westview. After her reveal as the villain, Wanda defeated her and locked her up inside the form of a noisy neighbor she pretended to be.
We thought that was it for Agatha, and regardless of Hahn’s terrific and acclaimed performance (we won’t even mention that “Agatha All Along” song that’s still in our ears), we were all surprised when it was Marvel Studios and Disney+ officially announced a spin-off series called ‘Agatha: House of Harkness,’ which was later retitled to ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos.’
Aubrey Plaza’s role in ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ is possibly revealed!
Developed by the creator of ‘WandaVision,’ Jac Schaeffer, the upcoming spin-off series concluded filming in May 2023, and it’s expected to debut during the first half of 2024. Kathryn Hahn is reprising her role, and many new names will join the MCU through this series. The most notable new name is arguably Aubrey Plaza, who was announced to play one of the witches.
Now, according to CanWeGetToast, it is rumored that Plaza will play Rio Vidal, an original character who would also be depicted as Agatha’s crazy ex. The report also says that Plaza’s character is the first-ever Green Witch. If Wanda is Scarlet Witch, we are sensing the pattern here. There weren’t many indications about Agatha’s sexual orientation in the MCU, but some reports claim that the upcoming series will officially depict Agatha as bisexual.
Jac Schaeffer, the creator of ‘WandaVision’ and ‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos,’ is also developing the upcoming series ‘Vision Quest,’ which is set to depict Paul Bettany’s White Vision after the events of ‘WandaVision,’ in which he absorbed the original Vision’s memories, opening the way for the character’s return in another form.
‘Agatha: Coven of Chaos’ is a limited series consisting of nine episodes. The series is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
