Even though we know that Star Wars has always been family-friendly, a few movies and series aren’t necessarily going to be good for children, especially due to the violence that can be quite prevalent in many different Star Wars media. In that regard, the upcoming release of the ‘Ahsoka’ series comes with the question of whether or not it should be watchable for children. So, what is the age rating of the ‘Ahsoka’ series?

There is yet to be an official age rating for ‘Ahsoka,’ but it is expected to have a rating of TV-14. That means that the series will have content that won’t be suitable for kids. As such, the ‘Ahsoka’ series can be a bit more mature than what kids are supposed to watch and is more suitable for teenagers.

While it might be true that ‘Ahsoka’ is an offshoot of the animated ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ series, which is suitable for children, parents should be cautioned that a live-action series tends to be more violent than animated shows. In that regard, it won’t be a surprise if ‘Ahsoka’ won’t be something that children would necessarily enjoy. That said, let’s look at the TV rating of ‘Ahsoka.’

‘Ahsoka’ age rating explained

If there’s one thing that Star Wars fans know, it’s that this fictional universe has almost always been a family affair because of how family-friendly Star Wars can be. Most kids who ended up loving Star Wars were exposed to it by their parents when they were young.

And the fact that there are a lot of animated Star Wars content makes this fictional universe a lot friendlier to children, considering that the animated shows tend to be less violent and not as mature compared to the live-action movies and shows.

Speaking of live-action shows, the latest live-action series set to appear on Disney+ is ‘Ahsoka,’ which will follow the story of the next chapter in Ahsoka Tano’s journey after surviving the era of the Empire.

Of course, we know that she made her live-action debut in ‘The Mandalorian,’ that means that ‘Ahsoka’ is set to focus more on Ahsoka as the leading character instead of as a supporting member of the cast.

Considering that Ahsoka Tano was popular in ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ and ‘Star Wars: Rebels,’ which were both quite friendly for younger audience members, there are many kids that may want to watch the upcoming ‘Ahsoka’ series, especially if they have become attached to the character and her storyline.

The thing is that, while ‘The Clone Wars’ and ‘Rebels’ were rated TV-PG and TV-Y7, respectively, ‘Ahsoka’ is a bit more mature in terms of its projected age rating. Of course, there is yet to be an official age rating for ‘Ahsoka’ released, but many expect it to have a TV-14 age rating. And this is because ‘The Mandalorian’ and the ‘Book of Boba Fett,’ which take place in the same timeline as the events of ‘Ahsoka,’ also have a TV-14 rating.

This can surprise many of the younger audience members out there, considering that ‘Rebels’ was always meant to be friendly for kids. Of course, ‘Ahsoka’ is often referred to as season 5 of ‘Rebels,’ and that’s why it might be surprising that it comes with a TV-14 rating instead of the TV-Y7 that ‘Rebels’ had.

But it is also worth considering that those who may have spent their childhood years watching ‘Rebels’ are already quite older today and should already be old enough to watch ‘Ahsoka.’ And that’s because the TV-14 rating is suitable for minor audiences over 13 years old.

Will ‘Ahsoka’ be violent?

When we look at the Star Wars world, it is almost without any violence because fight scenes have always been part and parcel of what made this fictional world so successful.

Of course, the most violent scenes tend to be the ones that involve lightsaber fights. And in the animated shows that Ahsoka was featured in, she was involved in many lightsaber fights that may have been violent but were not gory or brutal.

Of course, Star Wars was never the most gory or brutal fictional universe. Considering that ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ are also rated TV-14, we can assume that the violence in the upcoming ‘Ahsoka’ series should be minimal or moderate, similar to how the violent scenes in ‘The Mandalorian’ and ‘The Book of Boba Fett’ weren’t exactly too violent or brutal.

Lightsaber fights should be expected in the ‘Ahsoka’ series, and we’ve seen in the trailer that there are going to be several characters that are going to die due to a lightsaber, as Baylan Skoll can be seen impaling his saber through a soldier’s body. But the thing is that there is no blood or gore involved in that scene, and it is possible that this would remain constant in the entire ‘Ahsoka’ series.

Can kids watch ‘Ahsoka?’

With all that said, ‘Ahsoka’ shouldn’t be something that you would allow your kids to watch because it may have content that can be too mature and violent for them. While the series’ content might be suitable for teenagers because it isn’t overly brutal or violent, kids shouldn’t be exposed to such content early.

As such, it might be best to allow your kids to watch ‘Rebels’ first before allowing them to watch ‘Ahsoka’ in a few years when they are already teenagers. This series should be left for teenagers or adults to consume.
