‘Alita’ Star Rosa Salazar Reportedly Joins ‘Captain America: New World Order’

The fourth ‘Captain America’ movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is also the first movie with Sam Wilson’s Captain America as the central character, is now in production. ‘Captain America: New World Order‘ is one of those projects Marvel Studios didn’t need to shut down due to the ongoing WGA strike temporarily. Principal photography began last March, and the filming is expected to conclude next month.

Following ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ in which Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers retired and passed the shield to his close friend Sam, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in which Sam Wilson embraced his calling to become a new Captain America, Anthony Mackie’s MCU path will continue in this next movie which will assemble a large cast of both returning and brand-new characters. And according to the latest report, one of those new characters will be played by the title star of 2019’s Alita: Battle Angel.

Rosa Salazar will reportedly join the MCU in the next Captain America movie!

According to Murphy’s Multivere’s report, Rosa Salazar has joined the cast of ‘Captain America: New World Order’. Additional reports are she was cast in the role of Rachel Leighton, also known as Diamondback. Last January, insider Daniel Richtman reported that Diamondback is set to be one of the movie’s villains.

Something that backs these reports is the recent confirmation that Serpent Society will be a part of the upcoming ‘Captain America’ movie. The Serpent Society is an evil organization of snake-themed supervillains in Marvel Comics, and Diamondback is also one of its members. Other notable members of the Serpent Society are King Cobra, Anaconda, Black Mamba, Princess Python, Viper, etc.

Rachel Leighton, aka Diamondback, first appeared in the source material in ‘Captain America #310’ in October 1985. She was originally depicted as a supervillain and a member of the Serpent Society before she started developing feelings for Captain America, which eventually drew her to the good side.

Anthony Mackie debuted as Sam Wilson, aka the original Falcon, in 2014’s ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.’ He was established as the new Captain America in 2021’s ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, while Danny Ramirez’s Joaquin Torres is set to become a new Falcon.

‘Captain America: New World Order’ will also see the return of Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross from 2008’s ‘The Incredible Hulk.’ Harrison Ford will play Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, replacing the late star William Hurt, while Shira Haas will debut as Sabra, the first Israeli superheroine. WWE star Seth Rollins will play one of the members of the Serpent Society.

‘Captain America: New World Order’ is directed by Julius Onah, who teased the movie as an “incredibly intense but fun paranoid thriller.” Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, who previously worked on ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’, developed the script. ‘Captain America: New World Order’ is set to be released on May 3, 2024.
