‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Doctor Doom’s Comic Con Trophy Room Has Fans Asking Whether He Has Already Beaten Thanos, Ultron and the Silver Surfer
Doctor Doom has never been a villain who sits quietly in the background. He has a gift for turning every room into a throne room and every victory into a monument. So it was hardly a shock when a Marvel booth at New York Comic Con turned the character’s ego into a full-blown museum exhibit.
Robert Downey Jr. plays the iconic villain in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,‘ which arrives in theaters on December 18. The film brings together heroes from multiple universes, and Doom is positioned as the threat that unites them. With the release less than two months away, even a convention display can send theories spinning.
That is exactly what happened with Doctor Doom’s trophy room at NYCC, which showcased artifacts tied to 8 Marvel characters, including Thanos, Ultron, the Silver Surfer and Galactus.
The display recreated Doom’s laboratory and filled it with objects from across the Marvel universe. The booth was set up at the Javits Center, and the convention ran through Sunday, October 11. A video of the display gave fans a closer look at the pieces.
Among the objects were Ultron’s head, Thanos’ cracked helmet, a damaged piece of the Silver Surfer’s board, the Venom symbiote and Cyclops’ visor. Another photo of the booth highlighted Mjolnir alongside them. A further piece, the Ultimate Nullifier, was also reportedly on show.
Each item invites its own theory. Ultron’s decapitated vibranium head, for instance, suggests that Doom defeated a version of Ultron at some point. Thanos’ broken helmet points to a similar story, with one of the MCU’s biggest villains apparently left behind as a trophy.
The Silver Surfer’s split board nods to the Fantastic Four side of the story, while Cyclops’ visor connects to the X-Men. Fans also noticed multiple Doctor Doom masks, which could be spares or a sign that Doom has defeated some of his own variants. In the comics, one of the objects on display is kept inside Galactus’ worldship, though that object has not yet appeared in the MCU.
It is worth treating the display carefully. ScreenCrush noted that the booth was not directly tied to ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ It was actually designed to hype a Doom-related Marvel event in ‘Fortnite,’ even though it appeared just a couple of months before the film. Some fans argued the display was a replica of Doom’s trophy room from the game.
That doesn’t stop the speculation. Others have argued that the collection could be connected to the conflict at the heart of the film, since the objects span the main MCU, the Fantastic Four’s world and the X-Men’s universe.

The most popular theory is that the trophy room reveals Doom’s history. If he has already defeated powerful beings, it could mean he operates on a scale that dwarfs the heroes. It could also hint that the film will reveal how he built his power.
Another theory is that the artifacts are Easter eggs designed to tease ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ which follows on December 17, 2027. Doom collecting weapons from across the multiverse fits neatly with a story about colliding worlds. Still, nothing has been confirmed, and fans should treat the items as a tease rather than a plot summary.
The trophy room wasn’t Doom’s only presence at the convention. The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Doctor Doom costume was also on display at the Marvel booth, as part of a larger display that included other suits and props from San Diego Comic-Con, such as Red Guardian, Sam Wilson’s Captain America and a Sentinel head. At San Diego in July, Marvel had swapped out another display for the full Doom costume just hours before its Hall H panel.
Meanwhile, Heroes & Villains turned its booth into a Latverian marketplace inspired by Doom’s homeland, with a varsity jacket, a backpack and a Fantastic Four jacket.
With the premiere approaching, expect more teases like this one. Marvel has leaned heavily on convention displays and promotional stunts to keep the film in the conversation, and fans have been quick to respond.
Whether the trophy room is a hint about the story or simply a clever promotional piece, it makes one thing clear. Doctor Doom wants everyone to know how formidable he is.
