Marvel has spent the past year trying to rebuild momentum after a stretch of underwhelming box office results, and this summer finally gave the studio something to celebrate. The record-breaking success of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ reminded audiences just how electric a well-executed superhero release can still feel.

That excitement hasn’t faded as the calendar shifts toward Marvel’s next major event. If anything, the anticipation building around the studio’s upcoming ensemble crossover suggests fans are only getting more fired up heading into the holiday season.

Now the numbers are backing that enthusiasm up in a big way. According to TheWrap, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is running approximately 65% ahead of the pace set by the first two days of presales for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ a film that went on to open at $365 million domestically and over $900 million worldwide.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Just Revealed Whether It Takes Place After ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

The comparison is especially notable given the massive gap in timing between the two releases. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ didn’t open advance ticket sales until roughly forty-five days before its release, while ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ launched its presales months earlier, making the pace of early sales even more striking.

Disney recently opened full advance ticket sales for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ around four months ahead of its December 18 release, following premium format presales that debuted on a thousand screens back around the time of Comic-Con. Industry analysts have been quick to note that no major blockbuster has ever opened general presales this early, which makes direct comparisons somewhat imprecise, even as the early numbers continue to impress.

Much of the excitement circling ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has centered on the return of franchise stalwarts Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans, whose reappearances have reignited interest among both devoted fans and viewers who had drifted away from recent Marvel releases. That renewed enthusiasm follows a stretch in which several 2025 Marvel films combined for less box office than a single Deadpool sequel managed the year before.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has continued its own historic run in the months since its debut, recently crossing $2 billion worldwide after just three weekends in theaters. With both films tracking toward potential $2 billion global totals, Disney and Sony appear positioned for one of the strongest superhero box office stretches in recent memory.

The strong early data has also fueled speculation about how ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ might perform once it shares the December box office with Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three.’ Wide presales for that film have yet to begin outside of select premium format theaters, leaving plenty of room for further comparisons as the holiday release window approaches.

For now, the presale surge has become one of the biggest talking points among Marvel fans online, with many pointing to the numbers as early proof that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ could become one of the biggest theatrical events of the year. Whether that momentum translates into an actual opening weekend record remains to be seen, but the early signs are hard to ignore.
