First Look at ‘The Batman: Part II’ Batmobile Spotted in Glasgow as Gotham City Takes over Scotland
Few franchises have leaned as hard into practical, grounded filmmaking as Matt Reeves’ vision of Gotham City, and that commitment shows every time production rolls into a new location. Fans tracking ‘The Batman: Part II’ have spent the summer piecing together set photos, road closure notices, and cast confirmations to figure out exactly what Reeves is building next.
Glasgow has long served as a stand-in for Gotham, having doubled for the fictional city in both ‘The Batman’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ With production once again heading to Scotland, that connection is proving just as valuable for the long-awaited sequel.
Now newly surfaced footage appears to show the Batmobile itself rolling through Glasgow’s streets, with the vehicle spotted from above navigating the city’s cobblestone roads during this week’s shoot. The clip circulating online captures the car mid-scene, offering fans one of their clearest looks yet at the vehicle in action for the upcoming film.
Filming officially began in Glasgow city centre this week, with a three-week shoot planned across key locations including the Broomielaw, the Glasgow Bridge, the Kingston Bridge, North Street, and the National Cycle Route 75 along the River Clyde. City officials have confirmed rolling road closures across the affected areas throughout the production window, with restrictions in some zones lasting into late September.
Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne and Batman for the sequel, joined once again by Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oz Cobb, also known as The Penguin. The expanded cast also includes Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Jayme Lawson, and Charles Dance, though specific character details for the newer additions remain closely guarded.
‘The Batman: Part II’ picks up the story following the massive success of 2022’s ‘The Batman,’ which earned more than $772 million globally and reestablished Gotham as a grounded, noir-inflected world under Reeves’ direction. The sequel has weathered several release date shifts over the years, and Warner Bros. has now set the film for a February 18, 2028 theatrical release.
Production has already made its way through multiple UK locations this summer, including shoots near the old Birkenhead Tunnel and across the Liverpool City Region, along with additional filming on the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn. The Glasgow leg represents one of the larger and more visible stretches of the shoot, given the scale of road closures and the city’s high profile as a Gotham stand-in.
Fans have been closely following every scrap of set footage since cameras started rolling, eager for details on how Reeves plans to expand the world introduced in the first film. Whether this new Batmobile footage hints at any modifications to the vehicle remains unclear, though the grounded, muscle-car aesthetic from the original film appears to still be intact based on what’s visible in the clip.
With filming continuing across Glasgow into the coming weeks, more set photos and video are likely to surface as fans keep a close eye on Gotham’s latest transformation. For now, this fresh glimpse of the Batmobile in motion offers just enough to keep anticipation building for a film that’s been years in the making.
The Batman: Part II is filming in Glasgow, and the Batmobile has officially hit the streets of Gotham!
