‘Avengers: Doomsday’ ScreenX Trailer Hides Kate Bishop, a Red Sky, and Kneeling Witches in Plain Sight

Marvel’s biggest secrets sometimes hide at the edges of the frame, and the extra screen space is what makes that possible. The ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ ScreenX trailer is a wider cut of the studio’s latest footage, and it has fans freeze-framing everything.

ScreenX projects footage across 3 walls, giving a broader view than standard screenings. One report describes the format as expanding the picture to 270 degrees by adding more of each setting on the left and right. ScreenX shared the wider trailer on September 28, just as tickets went on sale.

That extra real estate has already paid off for eagle-eyed viewers. The fan account Mcu Master on X rounded up 3 details from the footage: Kate Bishop’s apartment, the red sky of the incursion, and 2 witches on their knees.

A brief shot of Scott Lang kissing his daughter Cassie on the forehead appeared in the first trailer shown at CinemaCon, and it led Kathryn Newton to confirm her return. The wider ScreenX view reveals that the pair are standing inside Kate Bishop’s apartment. A tender father-daughter beat has suddenly become a clue about who else is in the movie.

There is an important caveat. Kate is not shown in the footage, and Marvel has not announced Hailee Steinfeld for the film. Steinfeld’s character headlined the ‘Hawkeye’ series in 2021.

The setting also echoes an earlier Marvel moment. In the post-credits scene of ‘The Marvels’, Kamala Khan turned up at Kate’s apartment to recruit her for a new team, and even asked about Cassie. An insider called Majestic previously claimed that Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang would have small roles, with some of them sharing a single apartment scene.

The second detail is a change in the sky. The wider frame shows the sky turning red from the incursion during the battle between Thor and Doom at the X-Mansion. An incursion is an event in which 2 different multiverses collide, a concept first established in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’.

It also fits the story the marketing has been telling. In the earlier trailer, Charles Xavier looks out at a burning sky and a dying world. The ScreenX cut lets that apocalyptic glow wrap around the audience.

The third detail may be the juiciest for theory-crafters. As the camera zooms in on Doctor Doom, the Latverian Witches can be seen bowing to him, and there appear to be more of them than fans realized. Observers noted that the masks look like golden variations rather than the ones displayed at San Diego Comic-Con.

The big question remains who is under those masks. Fans are hoping at least 1 of them is Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, while a recent plot leak claims 1 will be a shape-shifter taking the form of Peggy Carter to fool Steve Rogers. Other theories point to Clea and Sylvie.

The directors are not spoiling anything. Speaking to Empire, Anthony Russo said there are “characters and actors who have not been announced” among the film’s players. That fits with a new post-credits scene in ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’, where Doom appears to recruit Bruce Banner.

The marketing push is running alongside the footage. A second Doctor Doom popcorn bucket and new T-shirt designs have also surfaced. Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Victor von Doom, with Anthony and Joe Russo directing.

The film is scheduled for release in the United States on December 18. Until then, every wider frame is a chance for new speculation, and the Kate Bishop tease may just be the start.
