Marvel Studios gave San Diego Comic-Con attendees one of the biggest surprises of the year when Kevin Feige brought exclusive footage from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ to Hall H. The trailer was not released online, leaving only the fans inside the convention center with a first look at what could become one of the MCU’s biggest battles ever.

According to Variety’s report from Comic-Con, the footage focused heavily on Robert Downey Jr.’s Victor Von Doom and showed that Marvel’s new villain already has a deep history with the Fantastic Four. Rather than introducing Doom as a complete mystery, the trailer appears to show a character who has already experienced loss, betrayal, and personal conflict before becoming a threat to the entire Marvel universe.

The footage opens with Doom sitting on a throne as Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm explains his complicated past. Her narration describes Victor as someone who was once very different, saying, “Victor was always the smartest guy in the room. He used to be different.”

The trailer suggests that Sue, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards, and the rest of the Fantastic Four already know Doom before he becomes the villain everyone fears. Sue explains that “Everything he loved was taken from him,” hinting that his transformation into Doctor Doom may come from years of pain rather than simple ambition.

The Hall H footage also gave fans a glimpse at the enormous group of heroes coming together for the film. Quick shots showed characters from across Marvel’s history, including Thor, Captain America, Black Panther, Shang-Chi, Loki, Cyclops, Magneto, and Gambit.

One of the biggest moments reportedly showed a destroyed New York City, with Reed Richards questioning whether Doom was responsible for the destruction. The scale of the damage suggests the film will push the multiverse conflict to a level far beyond anything Marvel has attempted before.

The biggest reveal came when Doctor Doom confronted Thor. According to reports from the Comic-Con presentation, Thor attacked Doom with his legendary hammer, only for Doom to catch it and easily throw it away. Doom then used his magical abilities to overpower Thor before revealing one of his most dangerous weapons: an army of Sentinel robots.

What part of the new 'Avengers: Doomsday' footage excites you the most?

The Sentinels are iconic machines from the X-Men universe, originally created to hunt mutants in Marvel comics and previous X-Men films. Their appearance in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ suggests that Doctor Doom’s plans could involve not only the Avengers but also the mutant heroes joining the MCU storyline.

The exclusive footage continues Marvel’s buildup toward the December 18 release of ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ The movie is expected to unite multiple corners of the franchise, bringing together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and characters from Fox’s X-Men films.

Marvel has already teased the scale of the crossover through previous promotional material, including reveals of Chris Evans returning to the MCU, Thor appearing alongside his daughter Love, the Fantastic Four meeting Wakanda, and the arrival of the classic X-Men team.

The film features one of the largest casts Marvel has ever assembled. Alongside Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, the movie includes Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Simu Liu, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and many more.

The return of Fox-era X-Men stars including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and Channing Tatum adds even more history to the crossover.

While fans outside Hall H will have to wait for an official trailer, the Comic-Con footage has already created major excitement. With Doctor Doom facing some of Marvel’s strongest heroes and commanding an army of Sentinels, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is shaping up to be one of the MCU’s most ambitious events yet.
