‘Below Deck’ Star Gael Cameron Speaks Out After a Brutal Season and Her Ex’s Domestic Violence Case
Reality TV usually sells itself on drama, but sometimes the real-life fallout is far heavier than anything shown on screen. For one ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ alum, the past year has been defined by a difficult season both on camera and off. Now Gael Cameron is sharing how she’s moving forward.
The season in question followed Cameron caring for her infant son, Kayden, in Croatia while his father, Nathan Gallagher, worked long days on a nearby superyacht. Season 11, which premiered on June 8, 2026, was filmed in summer 2025. That was months before the legal case that has since overshadowed the show.
On Friday, Cameron shared a message on Instagram reflecting on the season and what came after. She posted images of herself and Kayden and said that leaving her support system at home wasn’t the plan, but that she’s grateful for the experience. She added that Croatia showed her the strength she has as a mother and as a woman, and that she’ll survive and keep finding moments of joy.
Once filming wrapped, the couple split following an alleged domestic violence incident in December 2025. Gallagher was arrested on December 27 in Sydney in connection with an alleged assault the previous day. Police said he was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intentionally choking a person without consent, and common assault.
The alleged victim wasn’t named in the police memo, but court records showed Gallagher was named in an Apprehended Violence Application filed on behalf of Cameron. The two met while working as deckhands on season 9 and share a son, who was born in June 2025. Cameron is a Sydney native.
Gallagher addressed the case in a statement to Rolling Stone in August, saying he had made mistakes and would take responsibility for his actions. He also said he doesn’t believe the public has heard the full story and that he has evidence for a different version of events. His stated priority was his son and finding a way to co-parent.
Things escalated in September. Gallagher didn’t appear at a hearing in an Australian court, and a judge convicted him on charges of assault and choking. Police said he is believed to be offshore, and an arrest warrant is active, while Cameron appeared in court and presented evidence.
Bravo has said it doesn’t plan to work with him in the future. At the same time, the network isn’t editing him out of the current season, since it was filmed before the charges were filed. That decision has sparked debate among fans about how to handle storylines that look very different in hindsight.

Cameron’s earlier Instagram message, shared in early September, described a “tough season” and months spent quietly healing and rebuilding for herself and her son. She didn’t address the warrant in that post, and her latest message continues the same tone of resilience. Fans and fellow cast members have responded with support.
Chief stew Aesha Scott publicly defended her castmate on September 23, urging people to give Cameron grace. Scott said Cameron has been through hell over the past two years, and that critics don’t understand what she has endured. The comment came after Cameron’s appearance in a recent episode drew scrutiny online, including over her decision to join Gallagher in Croatia.
The case has also prompted a wider conversation about how reality shows portray relationships and how viewers react when real-world consequences emerge. For anyone affected by domestic abuse, the National Domestic Violence Hotline in the US can be reached at 1-800-799-7233. Cameron’s message, for now, focuses on healing and her son.
