‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Surpasses ‘Shang-Chi’ in Global Earnings

Captain America: Brave New World has reached an important milestone at the box office. The movie has now made over $403 million worldwide. However, reports say it needed to earn $425 million to break even due to its $180 million budget and marketing costs.
In the United States and Canada, the film has earned $193.8 million. Internationally, it has made $209.3 million. The movie was released alongside Paddington in Peru and was expected to make $80–94 million in its opening weekend. It ended up earning $88.5 million in three days and $100 million over four days.
On its opening day, it made $40 million, including $12 million from Thursday previews. In its second weekend, it dropped 68%, earning $28.2 million. This was one of the worst second-week drops for an MCU film. It made $14.9 million in its third weekend and stayed at number one before being overtaken by Mickey 17 in its fourth weekend.
Internationally, Brave New World earned $92.4 million in its first weekend from 52 markets. Its biggest earnings came from China ($10.5 million), the UK ($8.5 million), Mexico ($6.6 million), Korea ($5.6 million), and France ($4.7 million).
Brave New World has made more money overseas than Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, Shang-Chi made more money in the U.S. and overall. Shang-Chi earned $432 million worldwide, while Brave New World has not yet reached that number. One reason Brave New World did better internationally is that it was released in China, while Shang-Chi was banned there.
The movie has performed well overseas but still falls short of being a big hit. Despite mixed box office results, this milestone gives the film a small victory.
