Composer Michael Giacchino Is Returning to ‘Werewolf by Night’ with a Comic Book

Michael Giacchino is a very famous name, but you probably know him primarily as a composer for TV, cinema, and video games. He has won numerous accolades for his composing work and is definitely one of the best authors in his field.
But, what you might not know is that not that long ago, Giacchino also ventured into the world of directing, having directed Marvel’s Werewolf by Night TV special in 2022 and some smaller-scale projects before that.
Now, Giacchino is set to show us his artistic versatility in another field – that of comic books – as he is penning a special Werewolf by Night story focused on Dracula for Marvel Comics.
As he revealed, while working on the score for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Giacchino worked on a comic book story set in the Werewolf by Night universe. And while the story is not connected to his special, it definitely seems very, very interesting.
Giacchino describes his comic as “a lost story from the original run, in a way,” and reveals that his story will bring back Dracula; he added that in the “very, very, very beginning” of crafting his special, a story revolving around vampires was considered.
Giacchino added that that did not necessarily inspire this story, though. “I like the monster stories. I like how they humanize what is otherwise described or seen by the rest of the world as awful creatures and…well, monsters,” he said to the press. “I never saw them that way. I always saw them as people with some sort of problem that they needed help with. I always felt bad for them. I really did. So there’s this emotional attachment to those stories, which is still with me today.“
Finally, he told us what we can expect from the story as a whole. “It’s Dracula who has tracked him down to exact some revenge from the last time that they were together in the comics,” he revealed. “There’s a fun twist to it that I think is going to be really interesting for people who are into Jack Russell and that lore.“
