New set photos of David Corenswet in full Superman costume on the set of Man of Tomorrow have given fans their first real look at the next step in the DC Universe.

The images, which come from ongoing production reports and set coverage, show Corenswet back in action as Clark Kent while filming scenes for the upcoming sequel to Superman (2025).

The film is part of the new DC Universe being built by writer and director James Gunn. It continues the story that began with Superman and pushes the character into a much larger conflict. According to information released by DC Studios, Man of Tomorrow will not just focus on Superman alone. The story will also bring in Lex Luthor again, played by Nicholas Hoult, as both characters are forced into an uneasy alliance.

The main threat in the film is Brainiac, a powerful villain from DC Comics who is known for his advanced intelligence and destructive reach. The cast list includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, and Milly Alcock, who returns as Supergirl. Lars Eidinger has been cast as Brainiac, while Aaron Pierre is also involved in a currently undisclosed role.

James Gunn is writing and directing the film, with production handled through DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. The movie is being made as a direct continuation of Superman, building on the world and characters introduced in that film. According to Gunn in earlier comments, development on the sequel started even before Superman was released in 2025, showing how quickly the new DC Universe plans were expanding.

Production is already in full swing. Filming began on April 20 and is taking place mainly at Trilith Studios in Georgia. The project has also used locations in the United Kingdom and Cincinnati, Ohio. Some scenes are reportedly being shot at Terminal Station in Macon, Georgia, which is being used as a stand-in for the Daily Planet.

The production has also been adding new cast members during filming. Matthew Lillard and Sinqua Walls joined the project in early May, although their roles have not been revealed. Milly Alcock’s return as Supergirl was also confirmed around the same time, expanding the larger DCU character lineup.

Behind the camera, cinematography is being handled by Sam McCurdy, who previously worked with James Gunn on Peacemaker. This continues Gunn’s pattern of working with familiar collaborators across different DC projects. The production schedule is expected to continue through most of 2026, with several months of filming still ahead.

According to DC Studios and industry production updates, Man of Tomorrow is currently scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027, through Warner Bros. Pictures. It will be part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, the opening phase of the new DC Universe.

With filming ongoing and new set images continuing to surface, the film is shaping up to be one of the most important entries in the rebooted franchise. The return of Corenswet’s Superman, alongside Hoult’s Lex Luthor and the introduction of Brainiac, signals a major expansion of the story world as the DCU continues to take shape.
