DC Studios’ ‘Wonder Woman’ Reboot Gets an Update for the First Time in a Year

DC Studios has spent months keeping its rebooted ‘Wonder Woman‘ film shrouded in mystery, offering little beyond the occasional casting rumor since the project was first confirmed to be moving forward. That silence has left fans starving for any credible update on where Diana Prince’s next big-screen chapter actually stands.

That drought finally broke this week, though not through any official studio announcement. ‘Lanterns’ co-creator Tom King, who’s played multiple behind-the-scenes roles across DC Studios’ current slate, addressed the project directly in a new interview with Inverse, offering the clearest comment on ‘Wonder Woman’ the franchise has received in over a year.

When asked whether he’d remained hands-off on the film, King explained his shifting role within the studio before turning his attention to the project itself. “For a while I had a job where I was a consultant — like a nerd consultant — so I worked on a lot of different sort of [DC] projects. But between Lanterns and Mister Miracle… I’m not involved in Wonder Woman except to say I hope it’s going to be utterly brilliant. I hope the people who are building it stay true to who that character is, because she’s just one of the greatest heroines ever created,” King told Inverse.

That comment offers a rare, if modest, glimpse into how insiders within DC Studios are talking about the project, even from someone who’s explicitly not involved in its development. King’s earlier consulting work reportedly touched several corners of the studio’s slate, and he was also part of the broader writers’ room assembled when the DCU was first being built out, alongside names like Jeremy Slater, Drew Goddard, Crystal Henry, and Christina Hodson.

The film itself is currently being written by Ana Nogueira, whose credits include acting roles in “The Michael J. Fox Show” and “The Vampire Diaries” before pivoting into screenwriting. According to Toms Guide, Nogueira is also set to pen a live-action “Supergirl” screenplay for the studio, adapted from the graphic novel “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” making her one of DC’s increasingly go-to writers under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership.

Rebooting ‘Wonder Woman’ has been described as a top priority for the studio, with Variety reporting last year that DC was actively fast-tracking the film’s development. Gunn himself confirmed in June that a new “Wonder Woman” movie was “being written right now,” though concrete details about casting, tone, or release timing have remained scarce since that initial confirmation.

DC Studios is also reportedly developing a “Paradise Island” television series for HBO, set on Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira, suggesting the character’s expanded presence within the rebooted universe could extend well beyond a single feature film. That parallel project adds another layer of anticipation to how thoroughly the studio plans to reintroduce Diana Prince’s world to audiences.

Gal Gadot previously carried the character across multiple films, beginning with Patty Jenkins’ 2017 “Wonder Woman,” which grossed $822 million worldwide and helped challenge longstanding industry doubts about whether female-led superhero films could draw major box office numbers. Gadot went on to reprise the role in “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Justice League,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” and “The Flash,” though her future involvement in the rebooted DCU version remains unaddressed.

With King’s comments marking the first substantive public acknowledgment of the project in well over a year, fans finally have something concrete to hold onto, even if the update amounts more to well-wishing than hard details. Given how much weight this reboot carries following the character’s beloved cinematic legacy, expectations for Nogueira’s script are already running high before a single plot detail has been confirmed.

What should be the biggest priority for DC Studios' Wonder Woman reboot?
