If you’re following the news, you probably know that all the members of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) are currently on strike. We’re talking about around 20,000 screenwriters who are on strike after WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) didn’t negotiate an acceptable new contract. Many movie and TV productions are expected to be delayed because of this strike, and it’s unknown how long the strike will last.

But, some projects that are currently in development will continue their production regardless of the strike. DC fans will be glad to hear that the upcoming movie Superman: Legacy and the upcoming TV series The Penguin will continue their production since James Gunn, writer/director of Superman: Legacy, has already turned in the movie’s script last week, and all the episodes of The Penguin have already been written, and the filming will continue as planned.

The Wrap had exclusively learned that James Gunn turned in the first draft of the script for Superman: Legacy last week, just a few days before the strike began. The Wrap has also learned the fate of many TV productions that are currently underway. The Penguin and the second season of HBO’s House of the Dragon are continuing filming as planned, and the second season of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will also continue but without any writers and showrunners present on the set.

‘The Penguin’: First Teaser Trailer for the Batman Spin-off Series Revealed

DC Studios is currently working on developing their new cinematic universe, DCU, which will kick off in July 2025 with Superman: Legacy, written and directed by James Gunn. What is known is that Gunn has been actively working on the movie for the last few months, although we still don’t know who will play the next Man of Tomorrow.

The Batman movie, written and directed by Matt Reeves, was released last year, and the movie will get a sequel separated from DCU in 2025. But before the sequel, next year we will watch the spin-off series The Penguin starring Collin Farrell, who reprises the role of Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot he played in The Batman. The series is set to follow the titular character’s rising to a criminal kingpin in his own right.

Superman: Legacy is set to be released on July 11, 2025. The Penguin is expected to premiere on Max in 2024.
