‘Disclosure Day’ Star Eve Hewson Says Steven Spielberg “Scared the S*** Out of Me” — And She Loved Every Second
Eve Hewson has shared a story about working with Steven Spielberg and how intense and surprising the experience was for her, especially during key moments on set for Disclosure Day.
Hewson explained that she was already nervous before filming an important scene with Colin Firth. The scene was described as a long and tense mind-control confrontation, and she felt pressure about performing well alongside an experienced actor. But the situation became even more overwhelming once she arrived on set and realized something unusual was happening around the production.
She said that when she got to the hair and makeup trailer, she was told that very important guests were coming to the set. She recalled, “I get into the hair and makeup trailer and ask what’s going on, and they’re like, ‘The fucking president is coming.’ ” She then found out that former U.S. president Barack Obama was visiting the set, along with Steven Spielberg and several other well-known actors. She added that she had to perform her scene in front of a large group that included Spielberg, Emily Blunt, Colman Domingo, and Josh O’Connor.
Hewson said the experience added a lot of pressure to an already difficult scene. She was not only acting in a demanding emotional moment but also doing it in front of a very high-profile audience. Despite that, she managed to continue filming the scene as planned.
She also spoke about her earlier experience working with Spielberg on Bridge of Spies, where she had a smaller role. In that project, Spielberg used a simple but unusual technique to help her performance. She said he would stand off camera and use wooden objects to create sudden noises to startle her during scenes. She described it as helpful for her performance and said it stayed with her. She explained that it taught her how directors can use practical methods to trigger real emotions during filming.

Hewson said that working with Spielberg again on Disclosure Day showed her how closely he pays attention to actors. She described how he would guide her emotionally during difficult scenes and stay closely involved in the process. She said he would even react emotionally while watching scenes from behind the monitor, which made her feel supported during performance.
In another part of the interview, Hewson talked about how she first started working in film and how her path into acting developed over time. She studied acting in New York and gradually built her career through auditions and smaller roles before moving into larger projects. She said that finding her place in the industry took time because she did not fit the typical roles being offered to young actresses early in her career.
She also reflected on how her life has changed since joining a major Spielberg production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she said that the attention around the film has increased her visibility in the industry and brought new opportunities. At the same time, she admitted she feels nervous about how many people will eventually see the film once it is released.
Even with that pressure, Hewson described the experience as exciting and meaningful, especially working with directors and actors she admires.
