A new crossover movie bringing together two well-known characters is now being developed. According to reports, Sony Pictures is working on a film that will combine the worlds of Django and Zorro.

The script is being written by Brian Helgeland, an Oscar-winning writer known for films like Mystic River and L.A. Confidential. The project is still in early stages, but it will build on a story that already exists in comic book form.

The idea comes from a crossover comic series released in 2014. That story was created by Quentin Tarantino and Matt Wagner. It followed Django after the events of Django Unchained, where he continues working as a bounty hunter. During his journey, he meets Zorro, also known as Don Diego de la Vega, and the two form a connection while taking on dangerous enemies.

While Tarantino helped create the original story, he will not direct this new film. Reports say he supports the project moving forward, but his focus is on other work, including what is expected to be his final movie as a director.

The character of Zorro has been seen on screen before, including in The Mask of Zorro, where Don Diego trains a new hero to take on the role. The new crossover film is expected to continue expanding both characters’ stories in a shared world.

This project had been discussed years ago, but plans slowed down during the pandemic. Now, with rights issues sorted out, development has started again. The studio has not shared many details yet, and no cast or release date has been announced.

This is a very interesting idea. Bringing Django and Zorro together could create a fresh kind of action story if done right. Both characters have strong backgrounds, and mixing them could attract a lot of attention. What do you think about this crossover? Does it sound exciting, or do you think it’s a risky move?
