Does ‘Mortal Kombat II’ Have an End-Credits Scene? What Happens After the Movie Ends
Moviegoers heading to see Mortal Kombat II this weekend may be wondering if they need to stay in their seats once the credits begin rolling. Post-credit scenes have become common in major franchise films, especially action and comic book-style movies, so fans are naturally curious if the latest chapter in the Mortal Kombat series includes any extra footage teasing the future.
The answer is simple. There is no post-credits scene in Mortal Kombat II. Viewers can leave once the movie ends without worrying about missing an extra moment or a setup for the next installment.
The information comes following the film’s theatrical release on May 8, 2026, as audiences began sharing reactions and details about the movie experience. While many franchise films save surprises for after the credits, Mortal Kombat II keeps everything within the main story.
The movie continues the story from 2021’s Mortal Kombat and brings several returning characters back into the fight. This time, the champions are joined by Johnny Cage as they face Shao Kahn in a brutal battle that threatens Earthrealm.
The film’s official description says the fighters are “pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.”
Mortal Kombat II is directed by Simon McQuoid and written by Jeremy Slater. Returning cast members include Jessica McNamee, Lewis Tan, Joe Taslim, and Hiroyuki Sanada. New additions to the cast include Karl Urban, Adeline Rudolph, and Tati Gabrielle.
According to early review scores on Rotten Tomatoes, the film held a 69% critics rating as of May 7. Reviews have been mixed-to-positive, with many praising the action sequences and game references while others criticized parts of the story.
Development on the sequel began shortly after the release of the 2021 movie. Producer Todd Garner, writer Greg Russo, and McQuoid reportedly discussed expanding the franchise with future sequels and possible spin-off projects centered on characters like Johnny Cage and Sub-Zero. The sequel was officially approved by New Line Cinema in 2022.
Filming started in Australia in June 2023 before production was temporarily paused because of the SAG-AFTRA strike. Shooting later resumed in November 2023 and wrapped in early 2024.
The movie premiered at TCL Chinese Theatre on April 27, 2026, before its wide theatrical release through Warner Bros. Pictures on May 8. Reports have also confirmed that a third Mortal Kombat movie is already in development.
