Elon Musk surprised users on X by posting the full version of Armie Hammer’s film Citizen Vigilante on his account for 48 hours.

The movie had recently been banned in Germany after regulators refused to give it an age rating. Officials reportedly argued that its violent content could encourage violence against immigrants.

Despite that decision, Musk shared the entire film with his more than 240 million followers, making it available to watch for a limited time. Director Uwe Boll also uploaded the movie to his own X account during the same period. Although both uploads have since been removed, copies of the film continue to circulate after being reposted by other users.

Uwe Boll’s ‘Citizen Vigilante’ Is Now Free to Watch Online — But Is It Worth Your Time?

Citizen Vigilante stars Armie Hammer as Sanders, a wealthy American businessman living in Croatia who becomes a vigilante. As he begins targeting violent criminals, rapists, and corrupt judges, he gains widespread public attention. His actions turn him into both a wanted man and a controversial public figure. According to the film’s official synopsis, his campaign spreads online and through the media as more people begin following his story.

The movie is one of Hammer’s first major leading roles since his Hollywood career came to a halt in 2021. That year, multiple women accused the actor of sexual misconduct. Hammer denied the allegations, and after a lengthy investigation, Los Angeles prosecutors decided not to file criminal charges against him in 2023.

In an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hammer spoke about returning to acting through Citizen Vigilante. He recalled finding out that director Uwe Boll wanted him for the project, saying, “I’m pretty sure I cried. It was just this moment where I was like: I’m going to get to do the thing that I love more than anything — other than my children. I would have done a fucking cat food commercial. I just wanted to work again.”

Hammer also reflected on how the controversy affected his life and career. While denying the criminal allegations, he acknowledged making personal mistakes. He said, “I made these problems for myself. This didn’t happen to me by a fluke accident. I didn’t do what people are saying I did. But I brought very dangerous and unsafe people into my life, and I pissed off people in my life — and here we are.”

Meanwhile, Uwe Boll has already confirmed that the story will continue. He announced on X that Citizen Vigilante 2 is planned for release in 2027. It has not yet been confirmed whether Hammer will return for the sequel.

Musk also appeared to support the project after the film climbed to the No. 2 position on Apple TV’s chart. Responding to a post about its performance, he wrote, “Citizen Vigilante 2 will be even better.”

Whether Musk’s decision to share the movie helped boost its popularity is difficult to measure, but the limited-time upload brought renewed attention to both the film and Hammer’s return to acting. It also sparked fresh discussion online about the movie, its controversial release, and the possibility of a sequel arriving next year.
