The finale of The Boys has created a major reaction online, especially after viewers noticed what appeared to be a parody connected to Elon Musk. The discussion grew even larger after creator Eric Kripke responded publicly to the attention surrounding the episode.

In an interview shared after the finale aired, Kripke spoke about being allowed to include controversial material in the series. That controversial material is related to a parody of Elon Musk, who ends up in space in the final episode of the show. He said, “Nothing but laughter and enjoyment. And I don’t know what conversations happen up at the higher levels. All I can tell you is they let me do it. Even if I’m just a court jester, they haven’t chopped off my head, and I’m grateful for that.”

The final episode includes a major scene involving Homelander and a billionaire character named Günter Van Ellis. According to production material shared online by Jeff Mosa from the show’s production design team, the character was created with inspiration from Elon Musk. Fans quickly picked up on the connection after concept art and reference material started circulating on social media.

Inside the story, Günter is presented as a powerful billionaire tied to a secret network of wealthy figures trying to influence global power. Another character, Oh Father, encourages Homelander to work with him, suggesting that the alliance would help him gain even more control.

But Homelander completely rejects the idea.

Instead of partnering with billionaires or political figures, Homelander decides he no longer wants anyone above or beside him. In one of the episode’s biggest moments, he says, “I don’t need anyone anymore. I don’t need billionaires,” before taking Günter into space and abandoning him there.

The scene quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the finale. Fans online debated whether the show was directly mocking real-world tech billionaires or simply using familiar public figures as inspiration for its satire.

The production design material later added fuel to the discussion. Jeff Mosa posted behind-the-scenes references online, including a photo of Elon Musk that was reportedly used during the creative process for the billionaire character. Many viewers described it as an Easter egg rather than a direct copy, but the comparison spread rapidly across social media platforms.

The conversation became even bigger after Elon Musk himself reacted online. A viral post criticizing the finale and Homelander’s ending caught Musk’s attention, and he responded with a short comment: “Pathetic.”

Kripke later responded publicly and treated the reaction like a compliment. He wrote, “OMG this is his review of what @TheBoysTV did to Homelander, I’ll never get a better review ever.”

Musk then posted another response, even admitting he had not actually watched the show. He wrote, “I didn’t watch the show tbh, here’s the second best review… Kripke probably got flack from his wife’s bf for Homelander being used in based memes and had to write that ending as a groveling apology.”

That exchange spread quickly online and turned into another viral moment connected to the series finale. Fans argued over whether the show handled Homelander’s ending well or pushed its political satire too far. Others defended the finale and praised the show for continuing its aggressive style of commentary.

Over the years, The Boys has built a reputation for mixing superhero stories with real-world political and celebrity references. The final season appears to continue that formula all the way to the end.

What started as a fictional storyline about Homelander rejecting powerful elites quickly became a real-world internet debate involving one of the most famous billionaires in the world. That reaction may be exactly the kind of attention the series was designed to create.
