Euphoria delivered its most devastating episode yet with a season 3 finale that left several major characters dead, including Rue, the show’s central character played by Zendaya.

In the HBO finale, titled “In God We Trust,” four key characters lost their lives before the episode came to an end. The shocking deaths have sparked questions about whether the series can continue after such a dramatic conclusion.

One of the first major deaths came when Laurie, played by Martha Kelly, realized there was no way out after authorities closed in on her drug operation. As law enforcement moved in, Laurie chose to end her own life rather than face arrest. Her death marked the beginning of a tragic chain of events that would continue throughout the episode.

Rue’s story took an even darker turn later in the finale. After helping authorities target a criminal organization, she unknowingly became a target herself. Alamo, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, learned that Rue had secretly been working against him. While pretending to support her recovery, he gave her pills that were secretly laced with fentanyl.

As Rue recovered at Ali’s apartment, she experienced what appeared to be a final dream. She imagined returning home and seeing her mother waiting for her in the kitchen. The emotional scene also included memories of her late father. The audience soon learned that Rue was overdosing while experiencing these visions.

The next morning, Ali discovered that Rue had died.

The episode also included a tribute connected to the late actor Angus Cloud. In a television report shown during the finale, viewers learned that Fezco had escaped from prison. The moment served as a nod to Cloud’s character and legacy on the series.

After finding Rue dead, Ali reached a breaking point. During a final appearance at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, he spoke openly about the pain of losing people to addiction.

“I’m tired of losing people,” Ali said. “[I’m tired of] talking to kids, helping kids, pouring my f—ing heart and soul into kids, only to not see them get a second chance. I’m done.”

He continued, “Only thing I know for certain is that there’s a right and a wrong in this world, no in between. You’re either making the world a better place, or you’re making it worse. In the end, it’s that f—ing simple.”

Ali then decided to confront Alamo directly. The final showdown took place at Alamo’s strip club. During the violent encounter, G, played by Marshawn Lynch, was killed. Alamo also met his end after one of his own allies secretly sabotaged him during a standoff with Ali.

By the time the credits rolled, Laurie, Rue, G, and Alamo were all dead. Their deaths came just one week after another major character, Nate, was killed in the previous episode.

The finale ended on a quieter note. Ali traveled to the Texas farm that had deeply affected Rue earlier in the season. Sharing a meal with the family she once met there, he found a small sense of peace after everything that had happened.

The information comes from HBO’s season 3 finale of Euphoria, which is now available to stream on HBO Max. With several major characters gone, many fans are now wondering whether the series has reached its true ending.
