Everything We Know About ‘Vought Rising’: Soldier Boy, Stormfront, and a 1950s Murder Mystery
With ‘The Boys’ having wrapped its final season, the Vought Cinematic Universe is far from finished. Prime Video is pushing the franchise deep into its own dark past with ‘Vought Rising’, the prequel series that takes audiences back to the corridors of corporate corruption before Homelander was ever a glint in Frederick Vought’s eye.
In a statement shared by executive producers Eric Kripke and showrunner Paul Grellong, the pair described the series as “a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought,” promising to “blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.” If that pitch doesn’t sell it, nothing will.
The ‘Vought Rising’ Plot and Its 1950s Setting
Set in 1950s America, ‘Vought Rising’ explores the corporate empire and the dark origins of Vought International, depicting how superpowered assets were shifted from the battlefield to the walk of fame, fundamentally changing the concept of what a superhero is in this universe.
Thanks to established ‘The Boys’ lore, viewers already know that Vought was built by a scientist named Frederick Vought, who fled Germany after the Second World War and arrived in the US, where he developed V-One, the first strain of Compound V. Those who survived its deadly formula were granted superhuman powers and the ability to live forever, and only a handful of Supes carry that strain in their blood.
The first season will consist of eight episodes, each expected to run approximately an hour in length, and the title of the opening episode has already been confirmed as “Red Scare.” The McCarthyist overtones of that title feel perfectly in step with the show’s satirical instincts.
A key aesthetic distinction in ‘Vought Rising’ is the look of its Supes, whose designs are rooted in military iconography rather than the flashy celebrity branding that defines the modern era of Vought, reflecting their status as government assets rather than celebrity icons. Eric Kripke has noted that the Supes in the series are military people who move to the private sector, where showmanship and consumerism slowly replace military discipline.
The ‘Vought Rising’ Cast and Returning Characters
Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash are set to headline and produce ‘Vought Rising’, reprising their roles as Soldier Boy and Stormfront respectively. Their dynamic as the faces of Vought’s earliest era forms the beating heart of the series.
The confirmed roster of series regulars includes Mason Dye, who previously appeared as Bombsight in Season 5 of ‘The Boys’, and Kiki Layne from ‘The Old Guard 2’, both announced in August 2025. Will Hochman joins as Torpedo and Elizabeth Posey plays Private Angel, with their character costumes revealed by Prime Video in August of the same year.
The recurring cast grew significantly through late 2025 and into 2026, with Cecily Strong, Mark Pellegrino, Eric Johnson, and Annie Shapero all boarding the show, followed shortly by Raphael Sbarge, Romi Shraiter, Aaron Douglas, and David Hewlett. More recently, James Wolk, Dylan Arnold, Josh Randall, and Chad Willett were confirmed in key recurring roles.
One notable returning face is Ethan Slater, who reprises his role as Thomas Godolkin from Season 2 of ‘Gen V’, marking an early franchise crossover that connects the prequel to the wider VCU timeline.
The Soldier Boy Origin Story Fans Have Been Waiting For
Speaking with Variety, Jensen Ackles hinted that Soldier Boy in ‘Vought Rising’ will not carry the same swagger and gravitas audiences associate with the character in ‘The Boys’, because he has not yet spent decades as the undisputed top dog of the supe world.
Ackles elaborated in a conversation with Collider, explaining that the prequel allows him to “peel back the layers of what truly happened in that time” and show the experiences that shaped who Soldier Boy ultimately became. He stressed that the character is still recognisably tough, but that the origin of his worst tendencies is finally being put on screen.

Creator Eric Kripke told ScreenRant that Soldier Boy had genuine romantic feelings for Clara that viewers will understand much more deeply through ‘Vought Rising’, and that the complicated resentment between Soldier Boy and Bombsight will also be explored and explained within the prequel. Kripke also made clear that the series is designed to stand completely on its own, stating that having watched ‘The Boys’ is not a prerequisite for new viewers coming in.
‘Vought Rising’ Release Date and Future Seasons
Principal photography on ‘Vought Rising’ began on August 17, 2025, and wrapped on March 11, 2026, with the series expected to premiere on Amazon Prime Video in 2027. Fans hoping for a more specific date will likely have to wait until Prime Video makes an official announcement, possibly tied to a first trailer.
Eric Kripke has confirmed that the first season will be completed by the end of 2026, with plans pointing toward an early 2027 premiere. The timeline suggests a solid post-production window that should give the production room to land with the polish the franchise is known for.
Kripke has already addressed what comes after Season 1, telling Polygon that the first season has a satisfying standalone ending but “definitely opens a door into a new adventure and a new world,” with clear ambitions to keep the series going for multiple runs. Ackles himself confirmed to Collider that the intent from the very beginning was always for ‘Vought Rising’ to be a multi-season show, noting that he barely let the creative team finish their pitch before agreeing to sign on.
The VCU now stretches into the past and the future simultaneously, and with ‘Vought Rising’ shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in the entire franchise, the real question is whether you think a 1950s Soldier Boy can carry the same magnetic chaos that made ‘The Boys’ essential viewing. Let us know in the comments whether you think ‘Vought Rising’ has what it takes to fill the hole that the mothership left behind.
