Fans Can’t Get Enough of the New ‘Backrooms’ Popcorn Bucket
A new promotional popcorn bucket for the upcoming film Backrooms has just been revealed, and it is already getting a lot of attention online. The information comes from Regal Cinemas, which announced a special partnership with A24 to promote the movie ahead of its theatrical release on May 29.
Instead of a traditional collectible item, Regal is doing something different this time. Fans can actually print their own Backrooms popcorn container at home in full scale. The design is based on the Async Hazmat Suit, which appears in the film and is also part of the Backrooms lore inspired by the popular creepypasta and Kane Pixels web series.

The idea has quickly gone viral because it mixes marketing with fan participation. Regal confirmed that anyone who prints the container at full size and brings it to a participating Regal theatre during opening weekend will receive a free small popcorn. The promotion is being used to build excitement for the film’s release.
Regal is also running a giveaway for a hand-painted version of the popcorn bucket. Fans who want to enter the contest are being asked to follow Regal’s official Instagram account and comment on the promotional post about the popcorn container.
The design itself is based on the Async Hazmat Suit, a key part of the Backrooms universe. These suits are worn by Async researchers who explore dangerous areas inside the mysterious dimension known as the Backrooms. The suits are used for protection against unknown environmental hazards.
There are different versions of the suit in the lore, including yellow, green, and combat variants. The yellow suit is the most commonly used by researchers and includes oxygen tanks and an M17 gas mask. This design has been adapted into the popcorn bucket concept, turning a fictional survival suit into a collectible movie item.
Backrooms is directed by Kane Parsons in his feature film debut. The movie is based on his viral YouTube series and the broader Backrooms internet myth. It follows a story where a therapist named Dr. Mary Kline searches for her missing patient, Clark, who has disappeared into another dimension.
The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Clark and Renate Reinsve as Dr. Mary Kline. The cast also includes Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett, Lukita Maxwell, Avan Jogia, and Robert Bobroczkyi. The project is produced by A24 along with several major production companies, and it is being described as a science fiction horror film with strong psychological elements.
The Backrooms concept originally began as an online creepypasta and later gained massive popularity through Kane Parsons’ YouTube series. That success eventually led to a full feature film adaptation, making Parsons one of the youngest directors working with A24. The film was shot in Vancouver under the working title Effigy, with production wrapping in August 2025.
Over 30,000 square feet of set space was built to recreate the eerie environment of the Backrooms. Reports even suggest that the set was so large and maze-like that crew members occasionally had difficulty navigating it during production.
With its unusual popcorn bucket promotion and strong online fanbase, Backrooms is already generating attention before its release. The Regal collaboration is expected to be one of the more talked-about movie tie-ins of the year, especially among fans of internet horror culture.
