Fans Finally Know How Long Bosch’s Prime Video Return Will Be, Titus Welliver Reveals Details
Titus Welliver is returning as Harry Bosch in Ballard season 2, but fans should not expect him to take over the story. The actor has revealed that his role in the upcoming Prime Video season will remain limited, with Bosch appearing in only three episodes.
Welliver shared the update during an interview with ScreenRant’s Ben Gibbons at the 2026 Italian Global Series event. While discussing the future of the Bosch franchise, the actor said he was excited to see the world continue to expand through both Ballard and the upcoming prequel series Bosch: Start of Watch.
Welliver praised everyone involved with keeping the franchise alive, saying he was “very happy for Michael Connelly and for Henrik Bastin and other people I worked with for over a decade” on the original Bosch series. He also talked positively about working with Maggie Q, who leads Ballard as LAPD cold case detective Renée Ballard.
The actor described his experience on Ballard as enjoyable but different from the original Bosch show. He explained that the spinoff has a different feel and “doesn’t have the same intensity” as the previous series. According to Welliver, his return is mainly to continue supporting the larger franchise rather than becoming the main focus of the new story.
Welliver confirmed that Bosch will be back because he “comes in to kind of service the brand,” adding that he will appear in three episodes during season 2.
The smaller role follows a similar pattern from Ballard season 1, where Bosch was an important character but did not appear throughout the entire season. The spinoff follows Renée Ballard as she investigates cold cases, including a major case connected to Bosch’s own past work as a detective.

At the beginning of the series, Ballard and Bosch did not have the easiest relationship. However, as the season continued, they developed a mutual respect while working together. Bosch’s experience and connections became valuable as Ballard uncovered corruption within the LAPD.
The ending of Ballard season 1 also created several possibilities for Bosch’s return. Bosch helped expose problems inside the department and played a role in revealing what happened with former officer Robert Olivas, who avoided major consequences after making a deal.
With Welliver only appearing in three episodes, it seems the creative team wants season 2 to stay focused on Ballard’s own journey. The detective will have plenty of challenges ahead after the season 1 finale left her in a difficult situation involving accusations connected to Olivas.
Welliver’s limited availability may also have played a role in his smaller appearance. The actor has several projects lined up, including leading the MGM+ crime thriller The Westies and appearing in Dark Winds. He also recently confirmed that his schedule would prevent him from returning for the fifth season of Dark Winds because of his work on The Night Agent season 4.
Are you excited to see Harry Bosch return in Ballard Season 2?
It is currently unknown if other Bosch franchise characters will return for Ballard season 2. The first season brought back several familiar faces, including Barrel, Crate, Jerry, Mo, and Money Chandler. Given Ballard’s legal troubles going into the new season, some returning characters could become important as she fights to clear her name.
For now, fans can look forward to seeing Bosch back in action, even if his appearance is only for a few episodes. Ballard season 2 will continue expanding the world created from Michael Connelly’s novels while giving Renée Ballard the spotlight.
