Final Season of ‘The Boys’ Dominates Streaming Ratings After Big Return
Prime Video had a strong week in streaming thanks to the return of two of its biggest superhero series.
According to new Nielsen streaming data covering April 6-12 in the United States, The Boys made a major comeback with the launch of its fifth and final season. The series premiered its new episodes on April 8 and quickly climbed to the number two spot on the overall streaming charts.
The show pulled in 899 million viewing minutes during the week. Nielsen reported that most of that audience came from the first two episodes of the new season, which accounted for around 575 million minutes watched.
Even with the huge return of The Boys, HBO Max’s medical drama The Pitt remained the most-watched streaming title for a second straight week. The series reached 1.13 billion viewing minutes just before its season two finale aired.
The Pitt has quietly become one of the biggest streaming hits of the year. Nielsen data shows the drama has now stayed above one billion viewing minutes for nine straight weeks. Since premiering earlier this year, the show has reportedly generated almost 15.5 billion total viewing minutes.
Prime Video also saw success with Invincible. The animated superhero series continued its strong run with 566 million viewing minutes during the same week. According to Nielsen, that marks one of the best weekly performances in the show’s history.
Netflix also had several titles performing well during the week. The documentary series Trust Me: The False Prophet debuted with 850 million viewing minutes, placing it among the top original streaming shows in the country.
On the movie side, Netflix’s shark thriller Thrash became the most-watched streaming film of the week with 687 million minutes viewed.
Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking also returned to the streaming top 10 around the time its season three finale aired. Meanwhile, Dan Levy’s new comedy Big Mistakes had a quieter launch after premiering on April 9, finishing the week with 420 million viewing minutes.
The streaming numbers were reported by Nielsen, which tracks television viewing in the United States. The company noted that its rankings only include audiences watching on TV screens and do not count mobile phones, tablets, or computer streaming.
It was a very strong week for superhero content, especially for Prime Video. The final season of The Boys clearly still has a massive audience, and Invincible continues to prove that animated superhero stories can compete with live-action hits. At the same time, The Pitt keeps showing surprising staying power at the top of the charts. What have you been watching lately? Let us know in the comments.
