A new South Korean sci-fi monster movie is already getting attention after its first teaser trailer dropped following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The movie is called Hope, and it features a cast filled with both Korean stars and Hollywood actors, including Michael Fassbender. According to the teaser released after Cannes, the film is set to release in Fall.

The trailer opens with dark and empty streets covered in blood, damaged cars, and destroyed buildings. Sirens play in the background while quick shots reveal terrifying alien creatures attacking a small town in South Korea. The footage makes it clear that the movie mixes sci-fi, horror, thriller, and monster action all together instead of sticking to one style.

The official synopsis for Hope explains the story in more detail. It says:

“In the remote South Korea village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung-min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung-ki (Zo In-sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading.”

The synopsis also adds:

“What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.”

Na Hong-jin wrote and directed the movie. This marks his fourth time bringing a project to the Cannes Film Festival. The cast includes Hwang Jung-min, Hoyeon, and Zo In-sung alongside Hollywood names like Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender.

The movie’s cinematography is handled by Hong Kyung-pyo, while Michael Abels created the score.

Early reactions coming out of Cannes have been very strong. Reports from the festival say Hope received a 7-minute standing ovation after its screening, making it one of the most talked-about Korean monster movies currently on the way. Fans will finally get to see what the excitement is about when the film arrives in Fall 2026.
