‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’ Sets Netflix Streaming Debut, and Horror Fans Are Not Ready
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is the 2025 sequel to Blumhouse’s hit horror adaptation of Scott Cawthon’s popular video game series. Directed by Emma Tammi, the film continues the story of Mike, Vanessa, and Abby as they deal with the lingering aftermath of the deadly events at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. The sequel builds on the franchise’s mix of supernatural horror and animatronic terror, while expanding the deeper mythology behind the haunted restaurant and its long-hidden secrets.
The film features returning stars Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Matthew Lillard, alongside new cast members including McKenna Grace, Wayne Knight, and Skeet Ulrich. Released in theaters on December 5th, 2025, the movie was a commercial success, earning over 239 million dollars worldwide against a modest production budget. Despite mixed critical reactions, it performed strongly with fans and has since continued its run through streaming windows, now heading to Netflix US as part of Universal’s standard Pay-1 distribution deal.
Now it’s officially set to arrive on Netflix US later this summer. According to What’s on Netflix, the film will begin streaming on August 3rd, 2026, as part of Universal’s Pay-1 streaming deal.

The sequel also expands the universe in a big way, digging deeper into the origins of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza and the darker forces behind it. Matthew Lillard returns as William Afton, continuing his role as one of the central figures in the franchise’s mythology. The cast is also joined by new faces, including McKenna Grace, Wayne Knight, and Skeet Ulrich, adding more star power to the already popular horror series.
Financially, the film was another major win for Blumhouse and Universal. It opened to 63 million dollars in its debut weekend and went on to earn around 239.6 million dollars worldwide. With a production budget estimated between 36 and 51 million dollars, the sequel delivered strong profits, even if critical response was mixed. Reviews pointed to the film’s heavy focus on game lore as something that may not connect with casual viewers, but fans of the games remained highly engaged.
The Netflix release follows Universal’s standard Pay-1 streaming structure. After its theatrical run, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 first arrived on Peacock, where it launched on April 3rd, 2026. After a four-month exclusive window on that platform, it now moves over to Netflix US starting August 3rd.
Will you watch Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 when it arrives on Netflix?
Once it lands on Netflix, the film will remain available for a ten-month period before cycling back to Peacock as part of the longer 18-month licensing window. This pattern has become standard for Universal’s major releases, especially its horror and animated titles.
