‘Frozen 3’ Just Revealed Anna’s Wedding and a New Villain Is Already Crashing the Party – Check Out the First Look
Few animated franchises have carved out the kind of cultural staying power that ‘Frozen‘ has managed since its 2013 debut. Between two billion-dollar box office runs, a pair of Oscar wins, and a soundtrack that’s practically embedded itself into an entire generation’s childhood, expectations for a third chapter have only grown heavier with each passing year.
That anticipation has been building for a while now, especially since Disney first teased concept art for the threequel two years earlier at a previous D23. Fans had spent the time since piecing together hints from a Disney+ documentary suggesting a long-awaited wedding might finally be on the horizon for Arendelle’s royal family.
That speculation was finally confirmed at this year’s D23, where Disney debuted the first official footage from ‘Frozen 3’, revealing that Anna and Kristoff are indeed getting married, alongside the introduction of a mysterious new villain and a surprising romantic subplot for Olaf. The film is set to arrive in theaters on November 24, 2027, landing just before Thanksgiving that year.
Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell walked hand-in-hand onto the D23 stage together, opening the reveal with a live rendition of “Frozen Heart” before diving into details about the upcoming story. “Anna and Elsa are going on their biggest journey yet,” Bell told the crowd, confirming that the long-teased royal wedding has finally arrived. “This royal wedding has been a long time coming,” the stars added, noting that love is in the air for everyone in Arendelle, even Olaf.
Josh Gad then joined his co-stars on stage to perform a brand-new song dedicated entirely to Olaf’s romantic interest, a character named Samantha, a playful callback to a running joke from ‘Frozen 2’. The tune reportedly carried calypso and disco influences, giving fans an early taste of what Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez have planned musically for the sequel’s soundtrack.
The footage itself picks up on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding night, showing Elsa out on a dock studying a mysterious stone that ultimately opens a portal into an entirely new, snow-covered dimension. Menzel described the destination on stage as “a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created,” setting the stage for the sequel’s central conflict.
Once the group steps through the portal, they’re immediately confronted by a new antagonist, a woman with short black hair and a dramatic cape whose face wasn’t fully shown to the D23 audience. The character delivers an ominous line directed at the two princesses, declaring, “The sisters of Arendelle, we finally meet,” making clear the wedding celebration is about to be interrupted in a very big way.
Jennifer Lee returns to write the script for ‘Frozen 3’ while co-directing alongside Trent Correy, continuing her long creative partnership with the franchise since its earliest installments. The returning voice cast includes Menzel as Elsa, Bell as Anna, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, and Gad as Olaf, alongside the ever-present Sven.
This marks the franchise’s first new theatrical installment in eight years, following ‘Frozen 2’s massive $1.453 billion global box office run. Combined, the first two films have grossed a staggering $2.76 billion worldwide, making ‘Frozen 3’ one of the most anticipated animated sequels currently on Disney’s release calendar.
