‘Futurama’ Drops a Surprise Post-Credits Scene for Its Season 14 Finale at New York Comic Con

Few animated shows have ended as many times as ‘Futurama’. The series first aired in 1999, was canceled by Fox, came back, was canceled again by Comedy Central in 2013, and returned once more when Hulu revived it in 2023. Every goodbye has turned out to be temporary.

That history made the show’s latest finale feel like a joke the writers were in on. Season 14 wrapped on September 28 with an episode titled ‘Final Ending: The Last Conclusion’, a name that pokes fun at how many times the series has come back. Fans were left wondering whether it was really the end this time.

Now ‘Futurama’ has returned with a little extra. Hulu has released a brand-new post-credits scene for the Season 14 finale, which was shared with fans during the New York Comic Con 2026 weekend. The teaser clip runs 1 minute and 13 seconds, and opens on a bright beam of blue and white light stretching into the darkness.

The scene is positioned as an extra beat after the finale, and its release came with a playful prompt asking viewers if they wonder what happens next. Hulu has kept details limited, so much of the clip’s meaning is open to interpretation. All episodes of the season are now streaming on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

The finale itself is built around the idea of closure. It reaches back to Fry’s childhood, when he and his brother Yancy snuck into a PG-13 movie but never got to see how it ended. Fry spends the episode chasing the ending he missed, and the story ultimately gives him that satisfaction.

At the same time, the finale refuses to give the series itself a definitive ending. It leaves the Planet Express crew alive and the door open for another continuation. That approach fits a show that has been canceled and revived several times.

Season 14 premiered on August 3, with two episodes on premiere day and a new one every Monday through the finale. It runs ten episodes and counts as the 14th season overall and the fourth of the Hulu era. Reviews have described the season as consistent and gag-dense, with the episode ‘Our Flag Means Medical Coverage’ singled out as a peak.

One review noted that the season does not reinvent the formula but does not need to. It praised the voice cast and said the finale lands on a strong note by poking fun at television’s obsession with series finales. Taken together, the season has been received as a comfortable return for longtime fans.

‘Futurama’ Has Ended Again, but Matt Groening Insists “We Will Rise Again”

Hulu has no plans to order a traditional Season 15, according to TVLine’s report on the season’s end. However, the studio has ordered three supersized specials, each about 66 minutes long. The first is a Christmas-themed installment with the return of Robot Santa, planned for 2027, and Hulu has not announced a date for it.

Creator Matt Groening has been vague about the other two specials. He told Variety that the show has been on the air since 1999 and that there is more to the overall story arc of the characters. That has fueled hope that the specials will tackle unanswered questions from the series.

There is another treat for fans of Groening’s universe. A hardcover comic collection called ‘Simpsons Futurama Crossover Crisis’ is set to arrive on December 2. The book reunites the two series, which previously crossed over in the 2014 episode ‘Simpsorama’ and in earlier comics.

Together, the specials and the comic show that the franchise is not disappearing. If anything, the post-credits scene is a reminder that ‘Futurama’ rarely stays gone for long. For a show with so many endings, one more teaser feels completely on brand.

What are you most hoping to see in the upcoming Futurama specials?
