Guardians of the Galaxy is a superhero team that’s been existing on the pages of Marvel Comics since 1969, although the team that was later brought to the big screen was first formed in 2008. Although Guardians didn’t enjoy such huge popularity as the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men, that changed in 2014 when they were brought to the silver screen with the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie, written and directed by James Gunn.

The movie was released as a part of the MCU, and it was both critically and commercially successful, which resulted in a sequel in 2017 and the team joining the MCU crossover events Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame in 2018 and 2019, respectively. Now, almost nine years after their debut on the silver screen, the final adventure for Guardians is approaching with Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, for which the official teaser trailer was just released, and we’re here to break it down.

If you haven’t seen it yet, you can the official teaser trailer down below:

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3: First Teaser Trailer Revealed!

The Galaxy still needs its Guardians

The MCU fans have been closely following all the events related to the Guardians ever since the team was first formed in 2014’s original movie. Since then, the team welcomed a few new members, fought side-by-side with Avengers, lost one of their members, took part in the battle for Earth, traveled around the galaxy with Thor, etc. Now, the team is ready for their next and final adventure in which they will face some known and some new enemies.

The teaser trailer started with Guardians landing on some planet that looks a lot like Earth, but soon we realize that it’s not Earth since the inhabitants are obviously aliens. Guardians are wearing new Ravagers outfits, and Peter Quill proclaimed to the natives that Guardians are coming in peace. Well, except for Drax. Drax is once again in his element, which made Guardians not-so-welcome on this planet.

Baby Rocket

Movie franchises that are under the ownership of Disney are known for delivering many adorable characters. Baby Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was one of them, and Volume 3 will now have Baby Rocket, who is equally adorable. It is not known if this is some new character or maybe a Rocket himself when he was younger (flashback scene, maybe?).

One more thing this trailer showed us that looks very intriguing is a scene in which Rocket is given a hug by some female Halfworlder. From everything that this trailer is showing, we can expect one very emotional journey, especially for Rocket.

Gamora returns

Screenshot 19

If Guardians are Space Avengers, then Gamora is their Black Widow. Avatar star Zoe Saldaña joined the MCU as Gamora, daughter of Thanos, in the first Guardians movie, and she reprised her role in Vol 2., and Avengers: Infinity War, in which she was sacrificed on Vormir by Thanos as a price for the Soul stone. Thanks to the time-traveling theme of Avengers: Endgame, Saldaña returned to the role, but as Gamora from 2014, who didn’t meet Guardians yet.

After the Battle of Earth and Thanos’ defeat, Gamora sneaked out of the battlefield while other heroes were mourning Tony Stark (shown in a deleted scene). It is not known where is she and what is she up to now, but we know that Star-Lord will do everything he can to find her. Still, he probably knows that this Gamora isn’t the one he met and fell in love with a few movies ago, so we can only wait and see how will that resolve. But are we excited to see Gamora again? Absolutely!

First look at High Evolutionary

Although the most anticipated new character that fans can’t wait to see in this movie is probably Adam Warlock (more about him later), this movie will also mark the live-action debut of High Evolutionary. Chukwudi Iwuji previously worked with James Gunn on Peacemaker, and following the successful cooperation, Gunn offered Iwuji a role in Volume 3.

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Iwuji showed up at the convention dressed as High Evolutionary, revealing his role in this movie. High Evolutionary will be only one of the villains in Volume 3. He is shown in the trailer as kind of a mad scientist who likes to abuse others for his own gain. Iwuji impressed us with his acting skills in Peacemaker, and we cannot wait to see him in a Marvel project too.

First look at Adam Warlock

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had several mid-credit scenes, and one of them served as a teaser of what’s to come in Volume 3. Ayesha, the High Priestess of the Sovereign was a secondary antagonist in Vol. 2, and she will return in the next movie looking for a way to destroy Guardians. And this time, she will have help, in the form of Adam Warlock, whose live-action debut was teased in the mid-credit scene of Vol. 2.

There were plenty of rumors and speculations on who will play Adam Warlock in the MCU, but James Gunn decided to give the role to Will Poulter, which is something that took fans by surprise. The trailer gave us the first look at Poulter playing the character, and we have also seen a quick scene in which he was fighting Nebula. We can only assume what his role in the movie will be, but we are certainly excited to finally meet Adam Warlock on the silver screen.

Once again, it is all about family and teamwork

Screenshot 25

Don’t worry, we didn’t mix Guardians of the Galaxy with Fast & Furious, although if these two have one thing in common, they are all about a group of close people who deem themselves a family. A few shots from the trailer showed us that Gamora will be reunited with Guardians, which is something that we are definitely expecting.

The trailer also showed us scenes featuring plenty of teamwork and action, and we can’t wait for the movie to see the context. Some of those scenes include Guardians escaping from somewhere (judging from their outfits, it could be a prison), Guardians wearing space suits in outer space, and Star-Lord and Groot fighting together. This all looks cool visually, we just need to wait for the movie to see what will lead to all that.

Beautiful visuals, as always

Screenshot 18

This might be a worn-out topic, but we can’t talk about a Marvel movie without mentioning its visual design. Marvel movies are known for a lot of VFX and CGI and kudos to the development team who made all those beautiful shots. We have recently seen the beautiful world of Quantum Realm in the first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and now in Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 we can also see beautiful shots of outer space. It’s needless to say that this movie will be a feast for the eyes that will need to be experienced on the largest possible screen.
