Few career pivots have looked as glossy as Hayes Warner’s. The New York-raised pop singer, who performed at Lollapalooza and racked up millions of streams, has stepped into the world of prestige TV, and the spotlight has followed her. The buzz around Hayes Warner’s new photos fits that moment perfectly.

Her screen debut came with one of the most buzzed-about shows of the summer. In ‘The Shards,’ Ryan Murphy’s FX series based on Bret Easton Ellis’ 2023 novel, Warner plays Debbie Schaffer, the stylish and uber-wealthy girlfriend of teenage Bret in 1981 Los Angeles. The show premiered Aug. 5 on FX and Hulu, and Disney+ carries it internationally.

Now Warner is keeping the momentum going with a fresh set of images. In the two newly shared photos, she appears first in a moody black-and-white shot, wearing oversized dark sunglasses and a black sleeveless top, her blonde hair tousled into voluminous waves. In the second, she goes sleek and polished with platinum hair, smoky eye makeup and a pale satin top that has a draped high neck and a puffed shoulder.

Behind the glamour is a story of pure persistence. Warner wrote in an essay for Backstage, “Debbie was my dream role.” She described chasing the part for 7 months, and even taped a black bedsheet to a Best Western wall in Midland, Texas, while on tour to film her final callback, with her dad reading the other character’s lines.

The reward came fast. The next day she got the call telling her to move to Los Angeles within 2 weeks because shooting was about to start, and she left the tour. She has also said she was obsessed with the project, and after an initial setback she wrote a letter to Murphy asking for another chance.

Debbie sits at the heart of Bret’s social circle, alongside Kaia Gerber’s Susan Reynolds and Graham Campbell’s Thom Wright. FX describes her as someone determined to break free from the restrictions, secrets and expectations of high school. As the story unfolds, a mysterious new student named Robert Mallory (Homer Gere) arrives just as a serial killer known as The Trawler begins to haunt the city.

Warner’s on-screen family is stacked, too. Wes Bentley plays her father, Terry Schaffer, while Evan Rachel Wood plays her mother, Liz Schaffer, and Warner has said that Wood offered the most valuable guidance on set.

The young cast also built a real friendship. They reportedly bonded at a dive bar when they first met, and the chemistry was strong enough that Murphy let them improvise group scenes and kept most of those lines in the final cut.

Warner isn’t treating acting as an exit from music. She made her name with electro-pop tracks like ‘Oh!’ and ‘Zip,’ along with ‘Predator’ and ‘Breadcrumbs,’ and she is also contributing original music to the show’s soundtrack, alongside Troye Sivan and Leland.

Her red carpet moments have kept pace with her rise. She joined her castmates for the world premiere of ‘The Shards’ at the SVA Theatre in New York City on July 27, and later attended a launch party in Glendale, California, on Aug. 5.

With a hit series under her belt and fresh photos making the rounds, Warner looks well on her way to becoming a true multi-hyphenate. The series has also been described as stylish, erotic and deadly, a description that suits an actress who can pull off both rock-and-roll black and icy platinum in a single set of pictures.
