Hayley Atwell’s Grey Suit Steals the Spotlight at Marvel’s Big Peggy Carter Reveal for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

San Diego Comic-Con has always been a place where Marvel Studios saves its biggest surprises for Hall H, and this year proved no different. Fans packed the convention center hoping for scraps of news on ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘, the sprawling crossover event pulling together heroes from across the Multiverse Saga. Few expected the night to also turn into a fashion moment.

Marvel Studios returned to Hall H for the first time since 2024, having skipped the panel entirely in 2025 while ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ shifted its release from May to December 2026. That absence made this year’s presentation feel like a long overdue event, with Kevin Feige leading a nearly hour long showcase of the studio’s upcoming slate.

The headline moment came when Hayley Atwell was officially confirmed to be part of the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ ensemble cast, taking the stage alongside Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr. Atwell is returning as Peggy Carter, reuniting with her onscreen MCU husband Chris Evans for the celebration. It marks the first time Marvel has made the appearance official, even though her comeback had been rumored for a long stretch.

Photos from the event show Atwell dressed in a sharp grey pantsuit, styled with a black top underneath, posing in front of the convention’s iconic wallpaper backdrop. The look fits the polished, tailored aesthetic she has long favored at press events, a contrast to the tactical uniforms fans associate with her ‘Captain Carter’ alter ego. Whether her Doomsday role leans toward the classic Peggy Carter or ventures into Captain Carter territory has not been clarified.

Atwell was far from the only surprise of the night. Ryan Reynolds appeared in Hall H dressed as a version of Deadpool with a blue and grey costume, though it remains unclear if he will actually appear in the movie. During the appearance, Reynolds asked the cast why Thor was crying in a previous film, prompting Paul Rudd to joke that Thor is probably a Wrexham fan.

Elsewhere in the panel, Feige gave the crowd a look at other upcoming projects, including a new Ghost Rider film starring Ryan Gosling and a third Black Panther movie from director Ryan Coogler starring David Jonsson. A new poster spotlighting Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom was also unveiled, with attendees receiving physical copies. The panel arrived just ahead of two major releases for the studio, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Despite the wall to wall reveals, it was Atwell’s confirmed return that seemed to resonate most with longtime fans who have waited years to see Peggy Carter get closure in the mainline MCU timeline. Her reunion with Evans on stage echoed the emotional beats of their shared history since ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ shooting already wrapped according to cast comments during the panel, fans now have a long wait until December to see how her story unfolds.

What do you think Atwell’s grey suit moment says about how Marvel is framing Peggy Carter’s comeback in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?
