Ryan Reynolds Crashed Marvel’s Comic-Con Panel in a Denim Deadpool Suit, and It Might Be His Funniest Bit Yet

Marvel Studios has built an entire tradition around turning its Comic-Con Hall H panels into a parade of surprise reveals, with fans never quite sure which actor might walk out from behind the curtain next. This year’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ panel leaned into that unpredictability harder than ever, bringing out a steady stream of returning stars throughout the presentation.

Most of those surprises followed a familiar pattern, with actors like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans stepping out to confirm their involvement in the sprawling crossover event. That pattern held right up until one particular reveal broke the mold entirely, turning what should have been a standard cast confirmation into one of the weekend’s most talked-about bits.

Ryan Reynolds crashed the panel dressed head to toe in a fully denim version of the Deadpool costume, a look he later dubbed Jeanpool on his own Instagram Stories. According to reporting on the moment, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige called on someone in the audience holding what he described as the swords to ask the Doomsday cast a question, setting up Reynolds’ surprise appearance in character.

Speaking through the mask, Reynolds introduced himself as a longtime listener and first-time caller, calling himself a huge fan of Downey and the rest of the assembled cast before launching into his bit. He joked that he chose not to wear a Doom mask over his Deadpool mask because he did not want to ruin the lines of what he called his Canadian tuxedo, referencing the character’s signature denim-inspired suit from the comics.

Reynolds then turned his attention to Paul Rudd, asking where Thor was and why he was crying, a callback to a brief scene from ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.’ Rudd fired back with a joke about Reynolds’ ownership of Wrexham football club, keeping the exchange squarely in the same irreverent tone fans have come to expect from any Deadpool appearance.

Reynolds’ Jeanpool persona also asked whether ‘Avengers, Doomsday’ was still filming, seemingly hoping for an opportunity to sneak into the production before it wrapped. The answer he reportedly received was not the one he was hoping for, with confirmation that there would be no additional photography or overages left to squeeze into.

That gag plays directly into months of speculation about whether Deadpool will actually appear in the film at all. Reynolds sparked a wave of fan theories last year after posting an image of the Avengers logo defaced with a spray-painted red A, a visual callback to graffiti seen in ‘Deadpool and Wolverine.’ Despite the tease, reports have since suggested that if Deadpool does appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ he will not actually be joining the Avengers team in any formal capacity.

Reynolds has remained cagey in past interviews about whether he will don the suit again at all, telling Variety at one point that he genuinely was not sure if he would wear the Deadpool costume in another project, though he added that he hoped he would eventually get the chance.

Whether this Comic-Con cameo counts as an official confirmation of Deadpool’s involvement or simply another elaborate troll from one of Hollywood’s most persistent pranksters remains unclear. Either way, Reynolds once again proved he can turn even a costume stunt into one of the biggest talking points of the entire convention.
