Hela vs. Scarlet Witch: Who Would Win in a Fight, Goddess or Witch?

Hela, also known as The Goddess of Death, and Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, are two of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Universe. They are so powerful that it’s said they could destroy the entire cosmos on their own. Hela is an Asgardian and the firstborn of Odin, while Scarlet Witch is arguably the most powerful witch with incredible chaos magic. In a world that loves pitting popular characters against each other, one would wonder if Hela and Scarlet Witch ever met in battle, who’d emerge victorious?

Hela would win in a fight against Scarlet Witch. This is because she’s stronger, faster, more durable, and a better combatant with more experience than Scarlet Witch. All the same, Scarlet Witch would put up a good fight thanks to her immense magical abilities.

This article will explore the powers of both Hela and Scarlet Witch, comparing them against each other to see who’d win if they ever fought. So, if this sounds like something you’d be interested in learning more about, be sure to stick around till the end!

Strength

Hela is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful Asgardians ever. Only Odin is arguably stronger than her, and this is when he’s at his strongest. She’s arguably stronger than even Thor, which is saying much.

As the firstborn of Odin, Hela can draw from the mystical energies of Asgard to increase her powers. This, coupled with her Asgardian physiology, grants her superhuman strength allowing her to lift far in excess of 100 tons. What’s more, Hela could, in theory, make use of her magic to further augment her strength if need be.

Some of her feats of strength include catching Mjolnir, which was flying at her at full speed, and then proceeding to shatter it. She also bested Thor in two of their battles and stalemated him in their final fight. Hela was also strong enough to defeat the combined might of the Einherjar and the Warriors Three as well.

Mjolnir was originally Hela’s weapon, and she was strong enough to wield it.

On the other hand, Scarlet Witch isn’t best known for her strength. Thanks to her magic, she is arguably just stronger than the average human being but doesn’t possess the superhuman strength we’ve come to expect from some Marvel superheroes and villains. Still, her mystical abilities could enable her to increase her strength momentarily, allowing her to hold her own in any fight.

Speed

Hela possesses what can only be described as superhuman speed. It’s believed she can move at speeds exceeding 115mph, and it’s this speed that makes her a dangerous combatant. Hela’s superhuman speed also grants her incredible reflexes that allow her to anticipate, dodge, and counterattack with relative ease.

Hela is fast enough to match and outpace Thor in their various battles. She was also fast enough to catch Mjolnir in one hand, which surprised even Thor. Additionally, Hela was able to dodge Thor’s lightning attacks at close range.

Just like her strength, Scarlet Witch isn’t known to be particularly fast. Heck, she rarely ever relies on speed as she isn’t much of a combatant. Instead, her main choice during combats is magic, so we rarely ever get to see her utilize her speed.

That said, Scarlet Witch can move and react at speeds a bit above those of an average human. This is because her magic grants her some semblance of increased speed, allowing her to dodge and counter attacks even from powerful opponents.

Point: Hela (2:0) Scarlet Witch

Magic

As a goddess, Hela is one of the most powerful magic users across the Marvel Universe. What makes her a powerful user of magic is the fact that she can draw power from the mystical energies of Asgard, making her a supremely powerful sorceress.

She can utilize her magic for various purposes, including astral projection, necromancy, creating powerful energy blasts capable of killing gods, dark magic manipulation, and illusion creation. One of the most powerful attacks in Hela’s arsenal is the Hand of Glory, which allows her to strip the flesh of the bones of his enemies.

By comparison, Scarlet Witch is next to none when it comes to using magic. She was born with latent magical abilities, which were later on unlocked and amplified due to her exposure to the Mind Stone.

At first, she had no idea of the true extent of her magical abilities but when she found out, she began studying the Darkhold and the spells contained within it. This made her arguably the most powerful magic user ever, and she was even more powerful than Doctor Strange and Wong. She was strong enough to overcome the Illuminati with little to no effort and even took down the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj.

In addition to her innate magic, she was exposed to the Mind Stone, which gave her a wide array of psionic powers. These powers manifest as a red mist emanating from her hands and body. Her power signature is similar to that of the Mind Stone. Scarlet Witch’s magic is so powerful she willed all the mutants away.

While Hela is a powerful magic user, she cannot compare to the magical abilities of the Scarlet Witch.

Durability

Hela is one of the most durable beings in the Marvel Universe. Thanks to her Asgardian physiology and her ability to draw energy from Asgard, she is nigh invulnerable and a force to be reckoned with. She is more durable than most Asgardians and can withstand powerful impact forces, high-caliber bullets, and extreme energy blasts with no visible signs of physical injury.

For instance, Hela was able to take the full force of Mjolnir without being injured. She was also able to manipulate the Eternal Flame in her hand without being burnt. Additionally, she survived being impaled by an Einherjar sword and being stabbed with Gungnir by Thor without a scratch. She was also able to take multiple lightning attacks from Thor with no injury.

Only Surtur’s Twilight Sword could put an end to her, and apart from that, only Odin would be able to cause her significant harm.

On the other hand, Scarlet Witch’s natural durability is arguably similar to that of an average human being. However, thanks to her magical powers, she can augment her durability to protect herself from attacks by powerful opponents or even falls from great heights.

Most famously, Wanda Maximoff can create powerful force fields of red energy, which she can manipulate at will. She can use the force fields to grab and break apart targets as well as cover and deflect attacks from her opponents. The only catch is that these force fields can be broken with extreme brute force.

Some of Scarlet Witch’s feats of durability include withstanding photon blasts from Captain America as well as using her mystical barrier to contain Captain Marvel’s energy. She also withstood blows from Midnight and Glaive.

Combat Skills and Experience

Hela is a master combatant which makes her one of the best fighters in the Marvel Universe. Apart from being an incredibly talented hand-to-hand combatant, she has a unique mastery of weapons and can conjure them out of thin air.

Her skills as a fighter were so great that she was able to slay the entire Einherjar army, Warriors Three, and she also bested Thor in combat severally. She also slew the entire Valkyrie army on her own which is saying something.

To tie all this together is the fact that she’s had several millennia of experience in battle and could very easily overpower even the most powerful Marvel beings.

Originally, Scarlet Witch was a poor combatant, having never received any formal training. However, through years of experience, she was able to develop a unique fighting style by making use of her psionic abilities to greatly enhance her hand-to-hand combat skills.

Hela wins this round easily.

Hela vs. Scarlet Witch: Who Wins?

If the Goddess of Death and the Scarlet Witch ever met in battle, the Goddess Hela would win. The victory wouldn’t be as outright as some might believe because Wanda Maximoff is an incredibly powerful witch and would put up a good fight. Eventually, however, I’d back Hela to win.
