Henry Cavill and Kevin Hart Set for Surprise Buddy Action Comedy at Netflix
Henry Cavill and Kevin Hart are set to star together in a new untitled action comedy project at Netflix. The film is being developed as a high-concept story that mixes spy action with domestic life, and it is directed by McG.
The script comes from Adam and Aaron Nee, the writing duo behind Amazon MGM’s “Masters of the Universe.” Their script is based on a short story by Sean Lewis. The project brings together multiple production teams, including 21 Laps, Maximum Effort, and Hartbeat, showing how many major players are backing the film.
The story centers on two rival spies who unexpectedly meet in a Lamaze class. Their wives quickly become friends, which forces the two men into constant contact. What starts as an awkward parenting class turns into a situation where their secret lives begin to collide. As their professional spy identities clash with their new roles as soon-to-be fathers, the tension builds in both comedic and dangerous ways. The situation forces them to stop competing and instead work together, even though neither fully trusts the other.
The idea leans heavily on contrast. On one side, Cavill plays a highly trained action figure type character, while Hart brings his usual comedic energy to the chaos of everyday life. The setup places both characters in a space that is completely outside their comfort zones, where spy missions and baby preparation happen at the same time.
The film is produced by Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, and Emily Morris for 21 Laps, alongside Ryan Reynolds, George Dewey, and Patrick Gooing for Maximum Effort. Kevin Hart also produces through his Hartbeat banner with Luke Kelly-Clyne and Bryan Smiley. The scale of the production teams suggests a strong push for a mainstream global release once the film is completed.
Henry Cavill’s involvement continues a busy period for the actor. He is also attached to “Highlander” and Rawson Marshall Thurber’s “Voltron” adaptation. He is further developing the “Warhammer 40,000” universe with Amazon MGM Studios, expanding his presence in major franchise projects.
Recently, Cavill appeared at CinemaCon to introduce his “Highlander” reboot. In a video presentation, he said, “My name is Connor MacLeod. I was born in 1518. And I am immortal.” The presentation included early footage showing sword fights set in neon-lit environments, as well as behind-the-scenes clips of training and production work. The project is directed by “John Wick” filmmaker Chad Stahelski and is being developed by United Artists and Amazon MGM Studios.
While Cavill continues to focus on action-heavy roles, this Netflix project marks a shift into more comedic territory. Paired with Kevin Hart, the film is expected to balance high-stakes spy action with domestic humor built around parenting and family pressure.
No release date has been announced, and Netflix has not yet revealed a title for the film.
